Mississippi Velvet Season is right around the corner! 🦌⁠
⁠
This archery-only season runs September 11–13, 2026, and gives you the chance to harvest one legal buck in velvet, which counts toward your annual antlered deer bag limit.⁠
⁠
A Velvet Season Permit is required, and permits can be bought anywhere you buy a hunting or fishing license.⁠
-> Residents: $10 Velvet Season Permit⁠
-> Non-residents: Included in your $100 deer permit⁠
⁠
Private Lands and opted-in public lands are the only legal areas for hunting. As for the 2026 Velvet Season, there are no Wildlife Management Areas or open public lands (those that follow statewide regulations) participating in the Velvet Season. Be sure to check regulations for any public land you plan to hunt.⁠

Additional Rules to note:⁠
-> Harvests must be reported by 10 p.m. on the same day of the harvested buck. Hunters can report via the MDWFP HuntFish App or MDWFP web portal.⁠
-> All harvested bucks must be submitted for CWD sampling to a MDWFP CWD Drop-off freezer or to a MDWFP participating taxidermist within 5 days of harvest. ⁠
