We are very sad to share this news of Greg’s cousin Skip, who not only did so much for the Town of Marilla, but also for the community outside of Marilla by growing the best beef around. If you’ve shopped our Farmshop for grain finished beef cuts or ordered it from us in bulk, it was Skip’s and it was always the best. He will be missed by many.

Our family would like to thank you all so much for your support throughout the years. There’s no easy way to break this news, so here it goes…

We started our little farm 17 years ago and started building our Farmshop and butcher shop 6 years ago. We have had the privilege of being able to raise our kids into their teenage years in this beautiful, stressful, satisfying, sometimes scary (I’m looking at you Mean Steer), rewarding, sometimes sad, blessed, always hard working farm life and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. However, lately our family has been feeling the desire to simplify things and transition into more of a small scale homestead. With Greg’s demanding full time off-farm job, time is our most valuable resource and we just don’t have enough of it. Our kids are almost grown and we want to make sure we have some time available for spending with them in ways other than just work.

We have met a lot of amazing people and had some awesome experiences through our farming adventure years and we will truly miss that. I have loved getting to know all of you who shop regularly with us and meeting everyone who stops in for the first time. It’s the best feeling knowing all our hard work and effort has helped provide so many families top quality nutritious foods and helped support so many other local small businesses at the same time.

Rise’N’Swine never could have made it this far without you all and that is the most difficult part of making this decision. We really don’t want to let you all down, but we feel strongly that this is the right decision for our family. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support and helping our family have the chance to live out this farming dream for so many years!

We are putting the Farmshop/butcher shop building on the market. Our hope is that someone else with that strong passion for bringing local food to the community will use it to continue on with that mission. The specialized building and equipment are there already, it just needs the right people with that drive to continue doing something great with it.

Watch for more details about how we plan to roll the closing out in an upcoming email/post - DON’T WORRY, WE ARE NOT CLOSING IMMEDIATELY - it’s just on the horizon. We thank you for your understanding and for sticking with us through the years.

We’ve been at the Wyoming County Fair this week and since it’s world photography day I thought it would be a good time to share that our official farm photographer and chicken tender, Emilie, had not one, but TWO of her photos selected to go to state fair! All of her other entries received blue ribbons as well! We are so proud of her!

Here’s a photo of her with her two award winning photos: Indigo Snake and Monkey, both taken at the Buffalo Zoo.

A couple months ago we hosted a homeschool photography class taught by FortyTwo Photo LLC and all the photos they gifted us are amazingly beautiful! Here are a few of them 📸

This happens to be the class our Emilie takes and (shameless plug) registration for the fall semester is up on their website now 😉. After seeing these photos I also highly recommend them to our horsey friends who are looking for professional photos! 🐴

Well, a weekend of Greg on a bulldozer didn’t end in as much destruction as I always imagined it would. 😮‍💨

The kids have a really good start on their new outdoor arena! Anna got a whole day in of tractor operating and I’m really proud of the skills that kid has acquired in her 15 years - more than a lot of adults (including me)! You can’t say she doesn’t put in the work for the things she wants.

Next steps are sand, a fence, and lighting and then you’ll probably never find Anna and Wish anywhere else 😆🐎

Shout out to our go-to gravel guys, Woodruff Construction & Gravel Products, for many, many loads delivered yesterday!

One of the things I’ve most dreaded has happened. Someone rented Greg a bulldozer. I knew it was only a matter of time and I’m honestly surprised it has taken this long. 😆.

On the plus side, the kids will finally have the outdoor arena they’ve been dreaming of to ride their horses in!
