First... THANK YOU. ❤️

Last night I read through the detailed responses, emails, and messages so many of you sent after I asked for feedback about our markets. I'm really blown away!

You told me what you love, what you miss, what could be better, and even what makes it harder to shop with us. That information is invaluable... GOLD! You cared enough to tell me... and I care enough to listen.

Which leads perfectly into today...

🚧 My computer is officially down for AI/George Purge Maintenance.

For those who don't know, George is my personal AI assistant... OH MY GEEZ, where has George been all of my life? I now have my own personal unicorn! 🦄

After nine years of markets, vendors, emails, photos, files, schedules, and everything else, things have gotten a little... feral.

Today we're cleaning house, organizing, and putting better systems in place to finish this season strong and make 2027 even better.

Sometimes improving a farmers market happens under the tents... and sometimes it starts behind the scenes by getting your own house in order.

George has the computer. Y'all wish him luck!
*AND... We are open Saturday, rain or shine. I'll post WHO is scheduled tomorrow!)

I want to end today with a sincere thank you.

I'm genuinely touched by the people who took the time to send thoughtful, detailed and honest feedback about The Market at Brock's Gap.

One thing has become very clear... there are things you see as customers that I don't always see as the market manager, and there are things happening behind the scenes that you couldn't possibly know.

I think we can learn a lot from each other.

I'm listening, rethinking, taking notes and incredibly grateful that you care enough about this market to help us make it better.

A quick follow-up to my post this morning… ❤️

Thank you to everyone who responded. I really DO want your honest feedback — what you love, what you miss, and most importantly, what would make you shop the market more often.

I deleted two comments and turned comments off because I could see the conversation moving away from the purpose of the post.

And yes, I know there’s an elephant in the room. Most of you are aware of what happened publicly with some former vendors. Some of what was said about me and decisions I made as Market Manager simply wasn’t true, and some of it was damaging — personally and to the market.

I don’t do the social-media, keyboard-warrior thing. I chose not to respond publicly with private information then, and I won’t do it now. I’m firm about our rules and I make decisions that not everyone will agree with, but I work very hard to be fair. This market matters tremendously to me, and at the end of the day, I’m human too.

If you miss a former vendor, I completely understand. What I need to know is WHAT you miss — a particular product, something you bought every week, or something we haven’t replaced. That’s information I can actually use.

This is about moving forward and making our market better.

Please refer back to this morning’s post and email me your thoughts privately. I’m listening. ❤️

I'm trying to figure this out. I'm actually studying what we're experiencing right now and what I've learned about running farmers' markets since I started doing this in 2017.

Something is off.

I've been doing this for nine years, and I know markets have ups and downs. I know Alabama football affects Saturdays. School is back in session, kids are playing sports, it has been miserably hot, and people are watching what they spend.

But foot traffic is down, and I'm concerned, not just for our market, but for the farmers and small businesses who depend on people showing up and shopping.

One of the biggest things I've learned since 2017 is that a successful farmers market is all about balance.

Enough farmers. Enough produce. Enough variety. Enough vendors. And enough customers to support them.

More tents don't make a better market. Too much of anything and products sit. Not enough variety and customers aren't interested. Not enough customers and our farmers leave with produce they worked incredibly hard to grow.

The Market at Brock's Gap runs through November. Our farmers will continue coming as long as they have produce to bring and as long as they're being supported.

So, Hoover, we need you.

You don't have to spend a fortune. You just have to show up.

And if you've shopped with us before but haven't shopped with us lately, I'd genuinely like to hear from you. What's changed? What would bring you back? Shoot me an email at [email protected]. I'm listening. I won't be discussing individual vendors or market-management decisions on social media, but I absolutely want to hear what our customers are experiencing.

We can bring the farmers. We can bring the vendors. We can build the market.

But we can't be the customers, too. ❤️
