No filter this is how they look !Did you know the eggs you are purchasing from the farm are more than a month old already, on top of that how they keep these egg laying hands is horrendous and tiny, dirty cages. Here at Phoenix Peak Pastures all of our hens are pasture raised and supplemented with organic feed.An unwashed egg can last quite a while, thanks to its natural protective coating called the bloom or cuticle. Here’s a general guide:

Room Temperature (unwashed)
• Up to 2–3 weeks (in a cool, dry place)

Refrigerated (unwashed)
• Up to 3 months or more

Keeping them in the fridge will extend their freshness even more, but if you’re going for that farm-fresh vibe and plan to use them quickly, countertop storage works fine—just keep them out of direct sunlight and away from heat.

Once you wash an egg, though, you remove that protective coating, so it must be refrigerated and used within 1–2 weeks for best quality.

RIP Forest

Yesterday morning, it was such a beautiful day when I woke up. I remember the sun shining very brightly and singing, and thanking God and giving Him so much praise for such a beautiful day. I then went and did my chores, and when it came to Forest, I opened the door and found my dear, beloved best friend dead. I wailed, screamed and cried for over an hour before I could go get my husband so we could bury him and make him a beautiful grave. My heart and my farm will not be the same without Forest.

I cry as I write this message, but I think it’s necessary to honor him. Every person who met Forest instantly loved him. He loved to be right next to me every time I was doing chores, and he was my protector from the dogs—he would chase them away . He would go on walks with me when I road Quincy, and most of all, he loved his head pets. I’ll miss being able to come home from picking up the kids from school and yelling, “Forest!” and hearing a loud gobble.

Forest completely changed my view on meat turkeys, and I vow to him to never eat turkey again on Thanksgiving because these are such sweet souls. If you knew Forest, you know that he would follow you around like a puppy dog and wanted hugs and head pets. I know that Sadie, my dog who just passed away, is up there in heaven with him—but knowing Forest, he’s probably chasing her away too.

Gobble in peace to one of my best friends. He was not just an animal to me. I could care less about humans. Animals are what make my heart happy, and that is exactly what he did. I love you forever, and I will forever honor your name.

Meet Forest… Our Feathered Guard Dog!

Here at Phoenix Peak Pastures, we don’t just have a turkey—we have Forest Gump the Turkey, self-appointed farm supervisor and professional drama king. He struts around like he owns the place (because, honestly, he thinks he does), constantly picking fights with our actual livestock guardian dog.

Forest is very vocal about his dislikes, using his charm to get close before launching a surprise attack—his favorite hobby. Today, I found him trailing behind the horses, who were trailing behind the dogs… a little farmyard parade led by none other than Forest himself.

Unfortunately, when our rooster decides to launch an attack—on me, not Forest—our so-called guard turkey is nowhere to be found. Apparently, that’s not his problem! Thanks for nothing, Forest.
