Fundamental Belief System of Ifa :

- Babalawo Olaifa Ifagbemi Ajani

Beliefs are to our mind what operating systems are for computers. They dictate how we process information. Beliefs can come from our culture, experiences and conditioning. They can be learned, unlearned and replaced.

Belief is the key to unlock the power of Orí. In Ifa African Spiritual Technology, there are some core beliefs which practitioners adhere to which informs how they, we relate, interpret and interact with the world around us. Some of these core beliefs are listed below:

1.
We believe in the supremacy of Olódùmarè, the one true God known by many names but of one essence.

2.
We believe in Ifá (the message) and Ọ̀rúnmìlà (the messenger), the witness of destiny who signifies knowledge, wisdom and understanding.

3.
We believe in Òrìṣàs (Divinities and Principalities), the powerful emmisaries of Olódùmarè.

4.
We believe in the power of Orí (Inner Head), the divinity in us, the God given spiritual guardian, consciousness and destiny who follows us wherever we may go and is the most important spiritual force in our lives.

5.
We believe in the power of Ègùn (our Ancestors), the many not one, who died for us so that we may stand here today.

6.
We believe in the power of ìwà pẹ̀lẹ́ (good character) to help bring about the state of ipò rere - the good state of the world.

7.
We believe in the power of ase, the neutral spiritual power of manifestation.

8.
We believe in the power of Ẹbọ (sacrifices and rituals), for as we give so shall we receive.

9.
We believe in Àtúnwá (reincarnation), the cyclical nature of life and death and as we leave this earth so shall we return, thus the need to prepare for our destined homecoming. (Ìroṣùn Ìwòrì)

10.
We believe in Àṣùwàdà (communalism), the power of community to support, nurture, grow, protect and prosper. Community is when the many come together as one.
