Meet the Black farmer in Chicago growing organic food inside an 18-wheeler.

Where others saw a truck, he saw possibility.

In a city where access to fresh, healthy food isn’t equal, this farmer transformed a semi-trailer into a mobile farm — producing organic food right where it’s needed most. No massive land. No traditional farmland. Just innovation, vision, and a commitment to feeding communities often overlooked.

This isn’t just farming — it’s food justice.
It’s sustainability meeting entrepreneurship.
It’s solving real problems with bold ideas.

By bringing the farm to the city, he’s cutting transportation costs, reducing food waste, and proving that solutions don’t always look traditional. Sometimes, they roll on 18 wheels.

His work reminds us that innovation thrives when purpose leads the way.

✨ Black ingenuity. Urban agriculture. Community impact.

“Ujamaa,” meaning extended family in Swahili, embodies cooperative economics and inclusivity. As Hawkins told Because of Them We Can, their mission is to “elevate everybody’s potential so [we] can all thrive.
