Since the beginning of last year's archery deer season, the Hunters Feeding Michigan program, with the help of processors across the state, donated around 140,000 lbs. of ground venison. That's the equivalent of 560,000 servings of food for Michiganders in need.

The program is successful because of the generous hunters who donate deer, hard working processors and the Food Bank Council of Michigan and the Feeding America distribution network.

Since 2007, hunters have helped provide more than 3 million servings of high-quality protein for food pantries and shelters in our state, and we're excited to see it grow each year.

If you're out hunting this year, consider donating a deer to a great cause, or opt in to donate to the program while purchasing your licenses. Something as simple as a $3 donation helps provide a meal for a family of four.

Officials have confirmed that a partial government shutdown in Michigan would disrupt or halt the sale of hunting and fishing licenses. As of late September 2025, a budget agreement has not been reached, putting a partial shutdown at risk for the state's new fiscal year, which begins October 1. Potential impacts of a shutdown include license disruptions. The issuance of hunting and fishing licenses would be immediately disrupted, potentially affecting seasonal licenses and sales.
