Another reminder we receive from those we care for on our little homestead:
The honey bees remind us to slow down, be patient, and savor the sweetness of what we’ve created.

Checking the hive today:
First, I wanted to check the super to see if there was any capped honey. There was nothing going on, so I’ll prepare a quilt box with the super for the winter.

Second, I’m in awe of how calm and docile this hive is. As you can see in the video, they are busy capping their honey and preparing their winter stores.

I am hopeful that 2027 brings a sweet and steady flow of honey! 🍯 🐝

Another part of our flock is our meat birds. This is truly a family effort. From caring for them day by day to the work that comes at harvest, we all have a part in the process. Over time, we’ve found our rhythm and created a simple system that works for us.

It’s hard work, but there is something deeply rewarding about growing, raising, and providing for our family with our own two hands. 🤎

I saw a post the other day that resonated with me. 💗

“I hope my children remember the month of August with canning jars on the counter and dinner created around what was harvested from the garden.”

And I felt that. I love to grow my own food. I love watching my garden flourish throughout the summer. But my favorite part is being able to provide healthy food for my family. They may not like everything I grow and make 🙃 but they all have their favorites.
