Just finished mulching my tomatoes with sheep’s wool for the first time.

Everything I’ve read says it helps hold moisture, suppress weeds, slowly feeds the soil, and can even help regulate soil temperature during our hot summers. Curious to see how it performs here on the farm this season.

As a bonus, my hands are probably the most moisturized they’ve been in months thanks to all the lanolin.

Canning season 2026 kicks off with strawberry preserves.

Harvested from my sister’s garden, old variety Honeoye berries are my absolute favorite — deep red, fragrant, and full of real strawberry flavor.

I don’t cut corners and always follow a tested, safe low-sugar recipe. Water bath canning isn’t difficult and is a great way for beginning canners to get comfortable with food preservation.

Not every farm repair requires a big shop full of mechanics. Sometimes it’s two women troubleshooting why a irrigation pump won't start.

This afternoon the pump motor seemed to be flooded, so we drained the fuel bowl, pulled the spark plug, turned the motor over to clear the fuel, cleaned the plug, put everything back together, and after a few more pulls than I would’ve preferred in this hot weather… she fired back up. Water is flowing again and the irrigation reel is running.

I am ao thankful for good neighbors — especially this smart and capable woman who isn't afraid to get her hands dirty.
