We continue to be an exciting resource in those happening kitchens with The Amazing Rub Line which included our most popular trio blend of the Amazing Rub, Amazing Heat and the exotic star The Amazing Herbes! But our original Pummull Spice the house Baking Spice (think pumpkin pie exotic blend...it's here to stay and use all year), with the twisted sisters of heat in Blazing Belle. These seasonings that were born in the kitchen with authenticity and vibe, continue to perform as culinary rock stars.

Playing with apples today and this crust is amazing! Have fun!

Okay, so for me, you just can’t beat the original recipes from my heroine, Julia Child’s. I use the original recipe but I do add 1 Tbsp of sugar, I just like it better this way, so this is how it goes! If making a savory quiche, I still add the sugar…it’s just better. However, omit if you ...

RED GOLD is what I call this sauce….It is the catalyst to so many dishes that I cook!
Spaghetti meat sauce/YES, Beef Short Ribs with Wine/YES, Fabulous Chili/Yes.
So take a tomato paste, make it better and chunkier, VOILA’ the RED GOLD!
RECIPE; is crazy, find a peck or two of tomatoes, not perfects, just cool!
(In my case gifted to me by the amazing Megan Andrews!)
Here we go, in a huge roaster, the Turkey kind, core tomatoes, cut in pieces,
Olive Oil in roaster, garlic if your like/I like! And a generous shake of the
AMAZING HERBES….get ready,
200 degree oven for 10 hours uncovered. I did this overnight!
So crazy delicious, I freeze these containers with an inch of headroom
And they are all set for fall//winter and spring.
I’ve thrown in a recipe for the Amazing Herbes here for Boursin Cheese,
Make this and use to grill/or oven bake Italian bake, delicious!
Cheers to grabbing the ugly tomatoes and making GOLD!
ENJOY!

A Nasturtium Celebration—from Giverny to Ohio!

I am overjoyed by the show our nasturtiums have given us this year—wild, exuberant and absolutely spectacular!

But truthfully, it is the story behind the story that makes me laugh.

My visit to Monet’s gardens in Giverny inspired me—or perhaps I should say obsessed me! This is our first year celebrating nasturtiums in such abundance, and apparently they feel perfectly at home here at Hilltop Haven.

Meanwhile, Monet’s beloved gardens in France have been struggling through punishing heat.

What a wonderfully crazy twist: Monet’s flowers, inspired by Giverny, are prospering in Ohio!

We eat these edible flowers in our salads, decorate pastries with them and use their brilliant color wherever a little garden magic is needed.

With that in mind, I created Lemon Lavender Shortbread Cookies as the perfect vehicle—and the perfect flavor—for these beautiful blossoms: buttery shortbread, fragrant lavender, bright lemon glaze and a joyful scattering of nasturtium petals.

Today, I brewed a cup of tea, selected one of these pretty—and oh-so-delicious—shortbreads, and simply lived in the moment.

From Monet’s garden…to my garden…to the kitchen.

Cheers to small, sweet victories!

We have attached the recipe cards for you to save and enjoy, too.

Zucchini, abundant, delicious and versatile. Here is the way we make Zucchini in our kitchens. Take Squash and Julienne slice, put on baking sheet, drizzle with Olive Oil, Balsamic Vinegar and a good sprinkle of our own Amazing Rub. 400 degree oven and. That’s 40 minutes.
I comes out so browned, tender and ready for any dish you want to put it in,or heck…just on it’s own.
Here we were prepping a lot, but decided to divert some to the Lunch Plates,
So glad we did…with a little Marinara, sprinkle cheese…YUM!
rub
Cheers and Happy Gardens, Kitchens and Tables!
