🌿 What does an herbalist put in her daily cup of tea? Whatever is growing in the garden! ☕🌱

Come along with Connie as she gathers a handful of fresh herbs to create her daily garden tea. Today’s blend:

💚 Lemon Balm — traditionally enjoyed for its calming, uplifting qualities and digestive support
🌿 Holy Basil (Tulsi) — an adaptogenic herb traditionally used to support resilience during times of stress
💜 Lavender — aromatic, soothing, and a beautiful addition to a relaxing tea blend
🍋 Lemon Verbena — bright, lemony, and traditionally used to support digestion and relaxation
🌱 Stinging Nettle — a wonderfully nourishing herb rich in naturally occurring minerals and plant compounds

One of the things we love most about herbalism is that it doesn’t always have to be complicated. Sometimes it’s simply walking into the garden, seeing what’s abundant, and making yourself a cup of tea. 🌿

After decades of working with herbs, this is still one of Connie’s favorite ways to incorporate them into everyday life—fresh from the garden and into the teapot. ☕💚

What would you pick from the garden for your cup today?

🦋🐝🌺 Meet a few of our friends from the garden!

Our gardens aren’t just beautiful—they’re alive with activity. Monarch butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds move from bloom to bloom, finding food and shelter while helping create a thriving little ecosystem right here on the farm. 🌿

And one plant beautifully brings together two things we love: pollinators and herbal medicine.

🦋🌿 Butterfly W**d (Asclepias tuberosa), also known to herbalists as Pleurisy Root, belongs to the milkweed genus—and the monarchs love it!

Adult monarchs and other pollinators visit its brilliant orange flowers for nectar, while milkweeds have an especially important relationship with monarchs: they are the host plants monarch caterpillars depend on for food.

But herbalists have a relationship with this plant, too. 💚

The root of Asclepias tuberosa has a long history of use in North American herbal traditions, particularly for respiratory support—which is where the common name Pleurisy Root comes from.

🐝 The bees find nectar and pollen among the garden blooms.

🌺 The hummingbirds visit nectar-rich flowers and can carry pollen from flower to flower.

🦋 The monarchs find nectar, habitat, and the milkweed plants so important to their life cycle.

🌿 And the herbalist sees plants with generations of traditional knowledge and uses behind them.

That’s one of our favorite things about an herbal garden. We aren't the only ones who benefit from it.

To the monarch, it can be food and habitat.
To the herbalist, traditional medicine.
To the pollinator, nourishment.
To us all, beauty and biodiversity. 💛

One garden. So many relationships. 🌿🦋🐝

🌿 Our garden is ABUNDANT! 🍅🥒🌶️

There’s nothing quite like this time of year on the farmstead—when months of planting, tending, watering, and patiently waiting turn into baskets full of beautiful, fresh produce. 💚

Right now, our organically raised farmstead produce includes:

🍅 Tomatoes
🍅 Roma tomatoes
☀️ Sungold cherry tomatoes
🍆 Eggplant
🥒 Cucumbers
🥬 Swiss chard
🌶️ Poblano peppers
🔥 Cayenne peppers

All grown right here in our farmstead greenhouse and gardens!

Growing our own food keeps us connected to the land, the seasons, and where our food comes from—and we love being able to share some of that abundance with you. 🌱

Stop by the Shoppe and see what’s freshly harvested and available! Quantities will vary as Mother Nature decides what’s ready each day. 😊

🦋 We’ve been blessed with some very special visitors! 🦋

Over the past several days, hundreds of monarch butterflies have been gathering around the Lamb Shoppe farm as they begin their incredible fall migration south. Seeing so many of these beautiful creatures resting and feeding among the flowers has been absolutely amazing. 💛

Monarchs east of the Rocky Mountains make one of nature’s most remarkable journeys, traveling thousands of miles to central Mexico, where they spend the winter. And here’s the incredible part—the monarchs making this fall journey have never been to Mexico before. They rely on inherited instincts to guide them to the same mountainous region used by generations before them.

Late-summer flowers are especially important during migration. Monarchs need nectar-rich blooms to fuel their long flight, making gardens and natural areas filled with goldenrod, asters, blazing star, sunflowers, and other late-blooming plants valuable stopping places along their route. 🌼

You may also notice monarchs gathering together in large groups, called roosts, often settling into trees overnight before continuing their journey when conditions are right.

We’re grateful that our farm can provide a little food and shelter along the way. Watching hundreds of monarchs flutter through the gardens is one of those moments that makes you stop and appreciate just how extraordinary nature really is. 🌿🦋

Have you been seeing more monarchs lately? Let us know where you’re spotting them!
