We are officially exiting the corn growing market! That being said, we’re not sure if we were ever officially in the corn growing market… As evidenced by the photo from this post, our corn is pretty laughable right now and we definitely failed on this one. That’s ok though!

A lot of what makes a good farmer successful is the planning and thought that goes into every decision they make. While we can’t say that we’re excellent farmers, we do spend hours upon hours thinking through a lot of the decisions we make here. Each decision leads to real world impacts - financially and otherwise.

The past 2 seasons we have spent $1,500+ and taken up over half of our “farm” space on our small 7 acre plot trying to get a cornfield going. Both seasons have led to an unsuccessful harvest and produced $0 in sales.

We’re packing a whole ton of fun into a relatively small chunk of land agricultural wise and corn just doesn’t fit that bill. We’re working through how we want to repurpose the space in the short term but our end goal has always been to put a small pasture for some goats there. Way too soon to plan that adventure but it’s fun to share!

Thanks for the support and just know that we’re always doing everything we can to get you the best possible plant, egg or produce. Don’t hesitate to share kind feedback!

See you soon!

Looking for a new fruit tree for your yard? Look no further than the contender peach! This variety is great for our long Minnesota winters because of its necessary “chill hours” - a necessary duration where the tree is subjected to temperatures under ~45 degrees Fahrenheit.

Another great benefit of the contender is the self fertile. One tree does it all, so it fits where you need it!

We bring in a small batch of these peaches each season and they typically go quite quickly. We have a limited number available now! Send us a message if this is something you’re interested in learning more about. Free delivery to an IGH or SSP address for these trees, through September - just mention this post.

Thanks for the support and we hope to see you soon!

Getting excited for Inver Grove Heights Days ?

We sure are! Not only are we once again participating in the parade but we will also be at the business expo this year.

Join us on Cahill Ave on Saturday morning, 9/12, for an exciting day of tractors, snow plows, treats and more.

Then swing out to Cahill again on Sunday, 9/13 for the business expo to grab a mum and learn more about our farm. We’ll also have some produce and eggs. This is a great time to stop and chat or ask us questions!

Inver Grove Heights Days is an amazing week and it wouldn’t possible without tons of planning from a great group of IGH locals. Thanks to them and we cannot wait for the festivities to begin!

Just finished up potting some spring 2027 hydrangeas!

We’ll have 8+ different varieties of hydrangea next season! Some popular classics and some newer flavors.

We’re dialing up our propagation efforts over the next season or two so be on the lookout for some more availability as well. While we’re sold out of hydrangeas this year, we will have plenty for spring!

All of our hydrangeas are still the same great price - $20 for a 1 gallon and $25 if they’re in a 2 gallon.

Can’t wait to kick off the mums here in a few short weeks too. We will post our fall hours before the end of August - we’re hoping to post the whole month of September all up front but still in the works.

Thanks for the support. Let us know if you need anything!

Good morning and Happy Tuesday!

We hope everyone is staying cool out there. Make sure to give your plants an extra good dose of water these next few days - we can’t wait for some rainfall supposedly this Friday.

Mums are looking absolutely SUPERB. They’re just now touching the outside of their pots - about halfway through their growth season and we see great signs for our late August or early September launch. We’re tentatively thinking September 1 just to make sure everything looks good and buds are popping but we’ll keep you posted.

Farmstand is stocked and ready for you. We now have a limited amount of San Marzano Roma tomatoes ready at $1 per pound - available by preorder only due to space. Send us a message if you’d like to whip up some of your favorite pasta sauce or make some homemade pizza.

Keep cool, water those plants and enjoy your Tuesday.

Swing over before dusk and get your eggs and some grilling materials all right at the farmstand. Still a few honeycombs left too.

Thanks for the support and breathe easy with this smoke!

It’s been a while since we updated on our bees - let’s do that today!

Our 3 colonies are humming right along. We do our best to leave them alone, especially this first season, to let them get used to their new house and land. These bees came from a breeder based in Missouri, so they’re new to the land of 10,000 lakes.

For the first year, the goal of beekeeping is to get the hive large and strong to give them the best chance of surviving our cold harsh winters. That means minimal honey harvesting and less frequent “peeking” into the hive. Since we got them in May, we’ve only opened the hive a handful of times.

That being said, sometimes the bees build some comb where they aren’t supposed to and we have to remove it. Not only is it helping the hive, but we get some bonus honey!

Available at the farmstand this morning is bags of fresh, unprocessed honeycomb. This honey is sweeter than anything you’ve ever tasted and it’s amazing. Slather it on some toast, drop some in your tea or just pop a piece in your mouth and chew away.

While we definitely need to work on our packaging, come grab a bag and scoop some honey out with a spoon or your finger if you have to. Speaking from experience(C…), you’ll have the bag inside out and licked clean before you know it.

More to come. See ya soon!
