Our Story

We are a centennial family farm serving the Iron Mountain and surrounding areas. The farm began when John Steele and Lillie Bartle wed in 1910. The farm began with a small log cabin, one dairy cow, some chickens, and a small shelter for the animals. As time progressed, the family and the farm increasingly grew to nine children and many additional animals. Lillie would take homemade butter and cream, eggs, and vegetables to Iron Mountain to sell via horse and wage and train. At John’s passing, the farm was given to Leland (son of John and Lillie). Larry purchased the farm from Leland in 1982 to begin using it for farming purposes again. The Steele Centennial Farm currently provides a variety of in-season produce to it’s customers. Produce is available at the Iron Mountain Farmers Market (Saturdays during the growing season), Iron Mountain VA Farmers Market (Tuesdays during the growing season), and business hours at the farm.
