Hello to our followers and many that support our tiny farmstand.
It is with great sadness I have to share the farmstand will not be open this year. We have lost all but 6 of our hens. In 3 years we went from 52 (including chicks) to 27 last year and since this past fall we have lost 20 chickens. Earlier this week we lost 1 of our 2 oldest girls All due to predators. I had to stop free ranging them, I've put up safe but nuisance deterants, fencing, built 2 run additions and only let them out into the yard when someone is out with them. Our latest predator was a bald eagle that took Cruella, my last surviving mama hen.
Then the wind storm destroyed the addition so now the run is wide open to predators and needs a complete overhaul now.
So, with this being said I will not be getting additional chicks until I have the side yard completely fenced in including overhead, new addition and possibly moving the coop.
For those that have been loyal customers for ma years years please reach out to me here or stop by so I can setup a schedule for you to continue getting eggs from us come springtime. I do not use artificial lighting to encourage the girls to lay over the winter. It's not natural for them and it exhurts more energy when their bodies need a break. They do still lay during the winter but not as often. We are thankful and grateful for what they provide us. We are thankful for years of supporting what started out as a little cooler filled with eggs on the side of the road to my oldest son wanting to be a chicken farmer at 2 years old. Now at almost 5, he still helps and adores his cocoas (he now calls them chickens and by their names).
So this year we will be offering scheduled pick ups only for long term customers. We only have 2 weekly and 1 every other week or 1 monthly spot available.
We hope to reopen next year and have more to offer on a regualr basis. This year will be our trial and error, project and recoup our losses year to start again in the future.
Thank you all for your support. We love you all!
