I don’t think I have ever posted when a vendor has shared with me that they will not be returning for the season. Regardless, this is one that requires an announcement not because she has been at the market a long time, but because she has been such an integral part of the market for at least 15 years.

When I say “integral” it is an understatement.

When the market was located in front of the train depot, she would sweep acorns out of the way of customers. For the last several years, she volunteered (VOLUNTEERED!) every Saturday to clean the bathrooms in the little school house after closing the market. She would also arrive at 6am every Saturday so she could help me before setting up her own booth then put out market signs followed by running around for the next hour helping others pop up their canopies while her coffee got cold.

If we had a bit of down time in the mornings she and I would catch up with what’s been happening in our lives. I got to hear stories about grandkids. She got to hear goofy jokes or about whatever dumb thing I did that week.

Honestly, I cannot imagine the market without her let alone being there early with anyone else. She is definitely Abbot to my Costello.

And yet, the time has come for her to travel, visit family, or just sleep in. I know she will continue to find joy in whatever she does. And even if it is only a fraction of the joy she gave us then she will be happier than most anybody.

So, let’s hear it for Doris, the Pretzel Lady. Stay twisted. (pun intended).

While we are gearing up for the next season, let's take a moment to recognize a new market coming to Dubois County in Holland.

That's right. Holland United Methodist Church will be hosting a Friday night market on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month for June through September from 5pm - 8pm. This market was started by Elizabeth Wertman. See more details in the shared post.

For those keeping track, this market is alternating Fridays with Birdseye Farmers Market so the county can have a Friday market as often a possible.

Are you looking for a winter market? The Secret Meadow Event Barn will be having some starting in February.

We are at it again!!!! Supporting our local vendors with an indoor Farmers Market. We have a limited number of booth space available. If you are interested, please reach out for additional information on how to become one of our vendors. This will be for a 6 week span, starting Saturday Feb 7, continuing for the next 6 Saturdays from 9am to 1pm EST.
