Local vendors offer a wide variety of home grown, and homemade items. The Jefferson Farmers Market has been in existence since 2008. The first two years we co-hosted with the city of Commerce. One week in Jefferson, one week in Commerce. By mid-season of the second year it became clear that the vendors wanted to be in one place, the same place, every week. The local customers also wanted to know t

hat they could come to Downtown Jefferson every Saturday to get their produce from their favorite grower. Since then, we have hosted our Farmers Market in Downtown Jefferson every Saturday during the market season. In spring 2015 we saw that the USDA was presenting workshops on how to get grant money for your local farmers market. After attending the workshop, a grant application was submitted and thankfully, we were awarded one of the two-year grants. The funds from that grant directly support the promotion, expansion and running of the market during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Our Story

The Jefferson Farmers Market has been in existence for over ten years. The first two years we co-hosted with the city of Commerce. One week in Jefferson, one week in Commerce. By mid-season of the second year it became clear that the vendors wanted to be in one place, the same place, every week. The local customers also wanted to know that they could come to Downtown Jefferson every Saturday to get their produce from their favorite grower. Since then, we have hosted our Farmers Market in Downtown Jefferson every Saturday during the market season.

In spring 2015 we saw that the USDA was presenting workshops on how to get grant money for your local farmers market. After attending the workshop, a grant application was submitted and thankfully, we were awarded one of the two-year grants. The funds from that grant directly support the promotion, expansion and running of the market. In 2016 we introduced several new things. Including new promotional items (t-shirts, hats, shopping bags, and bumper stickers), an increased social media presence, special events and promotions, a re-structured organizational committee, and so much moreto still come!

In 2019 we re-evaluated the feasability of this program with the needs of our community. We knew that vendors and patrons had many other options and opportunities within our region. Therefore, we shortened our market schedule to include only the third and fourth (and fifth, if applicable) Saturday of the month, June through September.

As we began to prepare for the 2020 season, all of our lives were suddenly turned upside down with the presence of COVID-19. Social distancing, working from home, and halted public gatherings became our new temporary normal. We waited patiently. Weighing the pros and cons once again. And once again, we knew that we wanted to provide this outlet to our local vendors and community members. So we are pleased to host the 2020 market every Saturday, July 11 through August 29. We hope that you will come out to be part of it. We look forward to seeing you on the square!
