♥️🌵

When does a building become more than just a building? Art’s was founded in 1961 by the Mexican American Gutierrez family. This building served hot food for many years and as the neighborhood changed they adapted their business closing the restaurant portion and selling tortillas and chips to restaurants in Kansas City. They also adapted their space with a small market selling 100s of pounds of fresh nixtamal masa daily along with condiments to create a Mexican meal. Now Art’s is in its new phase where owners Marissa and Mark seek to honor tradition as it evolves and grows.

No, the Art’s building is not just a building. It’s a place of resilience. It’s a story of rebellion (more on that in a later day). Ultimately it’s a place where tradition is honored and pursues to continue to serve our neighbors.

Thank you for working with us on this project. ♥️🌵

We love working with our neighbors. Pictured here a gordita from Reyna’s Mexican Bakery. They are amazing! 🙌🏽

About Art’s:

Art’s Mexican Products was founded in 1961 by Arthur and Angela Gutierrez. First as a restaurant, grocery store and tortilla manufacturing. For the last several years, it has been led by their daughter Rachael Gutierrez Kelley. Art’s no longer has the restaurant, but has a strong footprint across the metro area servicing restaurants and grocery stores. Art’s has always been set apart of its competition by producing high quality nixtamal white corn and organic blue corn tortillas. A pilar in the KCK community and example of Hispanic resilience.

About Yoli Tortilleria:

Founded in 2017 by Mark and Marissa Gencarelli. It is inspired by Marissa’s upbringing in Sonora, Mexico. Yoli products reflect Mexico’s rich diversity by following traditional process but using local and seasonal ingredients. Products can be found in grocery stores and specialty food shops. They have a retail shop in the Westside neighborhood and are soon to move into their new manufacturing location at 3119 Bell Street, Kansas City Missouri.
