It has been miserably hot and humid. With a high of 86 and humidity at 88-90% it’s hard to do work outside. The tropical storm Fausto has pulled the colder air away from Hawaii.

Making bourbon vanilla. We start it every 6 months. Our first batch should be ready in time for holidays gift giving and baking. Did you know that a vanilla bean grows on an orchid plant? They thrive in tropical and sub tropical climates which means Hawai’i. It needs to be hand pollinated and takes years to mature enough to harvest. Then there is the drying process and then the infusion. The second photo is of our friend’s vanilla plants on their vanilla farm. It has been amazing to watch them go from building the greenhouse to where they are now. So much work. 🎁🍪🥮
