This year we set a goal of producing or sourcing locally all of our meat six months in and we have already accomplished our goal. We don’t need to go to the grocery store to purchase protein. #

We caught the mongoose that has been stealing our eggs and killed our chicken last week.

Our 1 acre and how we have utilized the space to maximize food production. We have plans to build a barn to milk our goats and shelters off the barn for birthing.

We spent many summers on the boat with my dad so that we could be together while he still worked. While it wasn’t always my preferred way to spend the summer at that age, I am grateful for so many great memories now that he has passed. This is a photo of me with a large tuna (big eye I think). What was up with the hairstyle? Clearly the 80s. We docked in San Pedro (LA area) where we sold albacore to Star Kist. I cherish all the memories of these trips. Some I recall were orcas following us to stealing fish off our lines, flying fish landing on the deck while we drifted at night and porpoise racing the boat while I rode the bow catching the spray in my face. I recall our hydraulic gurneys weren’t working that summer and all the fish had to hand pulled and we averaged 200-300 fish a day. My hands were calloused and I had developed quite a bit of upper body strength. I learned the meaning of hard work and a solid work ethic. I reflect in the lifestyle choices I have made and can’t help but think that his influence had a large part in the road I have taken. Farming and fishing are very similar in so many ways.

One of best parts about living in Hawaii is the availability of fresh fish. A friend took us out on his boat for a day that will be one to remember.
