Good morning my dirty friends- it’s time to close this FB page. What began as our nursery page, grew into a place to Share, ask, plot and plan, all wrapped in friendships that I do not want to “close”. I opened a new FB Page: “Talking Dirt” a little over a year ago to have a record of my dirty work in NC. My hope is that you will like that page and continue our dirty plotting, sharing your knowledge, asking questions and staying in touch.
Before I shut this page down, here’s a BLUEBERRY reminder: we will begin harvesting our banging blues in a few weeks and will happily take pre-orders now. $10 for an overly full lb of blues, same for the PINK LEMONADE blues and as always, a 2 lb limit on the pinks. Shoot a pm to me for preorders please. Happy Growing and I so hope to stay in touch via Talking Dirt! Stay safe, stay strong and Stay Dirty!

I know Twigs is closed BUT sometimes I come across really interesting things that I want to share with my dirty friends. So: you’ve heard me drone on about NEVER creating the perfect yummy hole for new plants but to always add a lot of the soil originally removed so the roots get a taste of the surrounding soil and will move beyond the prepped hole. Well this is a new twist for me and I love it. Merriest of Holiday wishes & a BIG CHEERS for 2020.

Here's why planting round trees in square holes makes the trees stronger and thrive faster than if you plant them in round holes.

With many plants preparing for sleep, those beautiful beautyberries and shinning! Although I think munching on the berries is about as satisfying as popping redbud buds in my mouth (yuck!) this is a great article and happy to know the leaves are a tick & mosquitoe repellent.

American beautyberries are a gorgeous native plant that produce edible berries and mosquito-repellent leaves. Find out how to use beautyberries here!

Hello my dirty friends!!! I just can’t help but send out a water reminder. All of the falling leaves are
Not welcoming fall, they are dead because of our drought. Heat & drought are deadly combos and water will either save or take life. Deep soaking = 2 hours with a drip or 3 hours with a sprinkler ONCE A WEEK. Light soaks will only entice roots to the surface to get a drink and they cannot tolerate 90 degrees. The goal is to let water soak into the soil and keep the roots of our already stressed plants deep. Hope everyone is well and digging our cool nights and mornings!
