As I think back to 25 years ago, i was sitting in an office in Asheville, surrounded by women who had chosen a career dedicated to the empowerment of women & children and the elimination of racism (basically a room full of badass change makers), watching live as the plane hit the second tower. The tears fell not only for the lives lost, but also for the loss of innocence and false sense of the freedom from fear we collectively held. This had happened on our soil. What’s next? What followed was a display of raw love, heroism, neighbors helping neighbors, a community and nation united. In this time of terrible darkness, the light of love took over and won….at least for a bit. In the past 25 years, we have seen our nation delve into polarization, division, and isolation, with an undercurrent of hatred and fear of those who are not just like us. This hurts my heart on so many levels. As we take this opportunity to pause & reflect on the atrocities of this day 25 years ago, I implore you to also think about the days after….when it didn’t matter if you were conservative or liberal, rich or poor, east coast or west coast or anything in between….there was love. Now, ask yourself, why do we wait for tragedy to strike to practice the golden rule of loving one another? What would it look like if you chose to lead with love in every interaction today? Then decided to do it again tomorrow and the next, until love became the bright light of habit? This isn’t just wishful thinking. If we can achieve this love and unity after tragedy, we can achieve it on a regular ol’ Tuesday. When we approach it from this lens, we see hate and division is a choice….a choice that is often programed into us by the powers that be….but I know a not so secret secret, LOVE is more powerful than any division we are being encouraged to have in our nation. So perhaps in honor of all those lost we can let our love light shine today & everyday to create the world we only get a glimpse of after tragedy. Why wait? This life is fleeting. It is time to BE LOVE!

While I knew it was happening, nothing truly prepared me for walking in to the shop knowing my beloved upstairs neighbor, , wasn’t coming & that was open only for scheduled yoga classes. What a wave of emotions. I am well versed in impermanence, but lordy, I still don’t like the times a changin’!

As I embark on this new (seemingly lone wolf) journey, it is honestly riddled with a tidge of fear. Now that eclipse season has closed, I have opened myself fully to decision making. September will be the month I make my decision of should I stay or should I go. While I have sincere hope for the former, it truly will depend on support from the community….we have always said we cannot continue this passion project without you!

So, remember, we are still open. Still wanting to serve. Still running a full service apothecary. Still providing a peaceful refuge. Still giving the best vibes on the beach. We are still here!

In this period of surrender, prayer, and deep listening, the same message keeps coming through LOUD and clear…go back to the beginning, focus on what brings you joy, and let your passion light you up!

Making herbal teas, tinctures, salves, poultices, soaks and more to support health, vitality, and mental acuity has (and always will be) my passion. I truly love supporting my family, friends, and community in this way. Since Greg became sick and went to dance across the stars, the medicine making (while still happening) hasn’t been as consistent….oftentimes my heart just wasn’t in it, so I didn’t want to infuse a lackluster attitude into the medicine. What this pause and uncertainty has shown me is creating and serving others is the only way to fully alchemize the heavy feelings back into love…acts of service is my Love Language, after all!

So, while I still don’t know what the future holds beyond December, I do know it will be filled with my passion for herbal medicine and loads of healing!

I will not allow all of uncertainty of the future to cloud the magic of the present moment….miracles abound, healing is abundant, and the answers will come. For now, I am simply grateful for this opportunity to serve.

I am not sure if it is a result of my absolute adoration of Little House on the Prairie as a child, my years spent dripping in Patchwork Calico dresses & skirts on the lot, or the scorching weather as of late, but nothing says cool, effortless, coastal style more than layered organic cotton gauze dresses....and these mix match offerings from our fair trade parter, Annahmol, are nothing short of dreamy! Since the announcements of the imminent closings of Shine On Juicery & Ascension Studio, we have been repeatedly asked, "what are you doing?" Well, the answer is both simple and complex...I don't know.

The only thing certain is Hi-Vibe Holistics will be open at least through the end of the year to fulfill our lease obligations. After that, well, it's up in the air.

While one of my superpowers is being able to see the glimmers in all situations, this one has me stumped. Being a community herbalist and having a full service apothecary is both a dream for me & something I feel is important & valuable to the Outer Banks. While the world is coming back around to herbal, organic, and non-toxic products to increase health & vitality (and you can purchase from every influencer linkon social media), I feel it is vital to have a local, knowledgeable & trusted source to discuss your needs and provide solutions. On the other hand, the support has to be unwavering for the venture to continue.

The past 2 years have brought constant change, and put me face to face with understanding the impermanence of all things. If I am being honest, I am holding on tight right now not only because I truly value and love serving this community, but also because Hi-Vibe is the tangible reminder of the marrying of my late husband and my passions....it is the last project we built together & his energy is infused in every facet. It is hard to comprehend one more change, and yet another loss.

So, I have turned it over to God, asking for guidance as to the next right step. In the meantime, I hope you will continue to support us, proving we are needed (and wanted) in this community. If these are the final 4 months, help us to make sure they are abundant, so we can bow out without too much loss & a ton of love in our hearts! And please, don't forget about our Listening Room Show on November 8th, when the Larry Keel & Jon Stickley Duo will set fire to the stage. If you have been to a performance in this special room, you know the magic. If you have not, this is certainly a stellar one to experience!

Today will always mean one thing....Happy 84th Birthday, Jerry! It sure does make me smile thinking of you, Phil, & Bobby riding that wave of Cosmic Sound across the stars!

I chose the beginning of The Days Between to make our next (and likely last) Listening Room show announcement, because the vast community formed around the music of Jerry Garcia was one of the catalysts for this passion project!

On Sunday, November 8th, prepare to be wowed when two of the finest flatpicking guitarists of this generation join forces for one evening of musical magic!

These living legends share a lifelong love of acoustic bluegrass guitar music made famous by influential duets Doc and Merle Watson, and Tony Rice and Norman Blake. Keel, Stickley, and other modern flatpickers,grew up studying these legends. These masters were role models who provided inspiration to both Larry and Jon to pursue careers as professional guitar players. Each has gone on to pioneer his own distinct interpretation of the bluegrass artform, as well as fusing genres from roots, jazz, prog, and beyond.

Now, Keel and Stickley have themselves become new masters of acoustic guitar. With this act, the two celebrate the pure joy of playing acoustic guitar music as a duo, effortlessly complementing each other’s rhythm and lead playing while never losing their own individual personality. At the core of the Keel/Stickley Duo is an intimate conversation between two guitars and voices, done with superior skill and taste, with more than a hint of explosive late-night-jam vibe.

A year ago today I lost the woman who ushered me through her portal of life & love to enjoy this side of the cosmos....she was my first (and lifelong) friend, teacher, guide, and inspiration! She is greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, but I know she is joyfully loving her reward of a life well lived, dancing across the stars with all those she loved who had gone before her, while simultaneously still loving and guiding all those she left behind!
