Itâs time to say goodbyeâŠ
Thirty-two years have gone by since Edelweiss first opened its doors. We are very sad to announce that we are officially closed for business.
Many of you were already aware that Dave, the owner, and truly the heart and soul of Edelweiss, has been fighting cancer. Itâs been well over a year since he has been able to work and manage the store, and his absence was sorely felt. During that time, his two sons put their own plans on hold, and along with some very special crewmembers, had been doing their best to hold down the fort in anticipation of his return. Unfortunately, his return was not meant to be. We were hoping we would find someone to take over the business and keep alive one of the last authentic German delicatessens, but that was also not meant to be.
Dave and his family are sincerely grateful for each and every customer that has walked through our doors, many of whom we are proud to call friends. Whether it was Sunday morning breakfast for the family, a sandwich for your lunch break, a catered Oktoberfest party, or a bratwurst on Kings Park Day, it has been an absolute honor and a joy to serve the Kings Park community. We will miss this huge chapter of our lives and all the people we have shared it with.
The Hennings family also thanks all those who have reached out with messages of kindness and support during this difficult time. Dave has put up a long and brave fight. We are heartbroken that this is not a fight he will win. If anyone would like to share an Edelweiss memory or send Dave a message, we would love to pass it on to him.
Alles Gute & Auf Wiedersehen!
(Best wishes & Goodbye, or âuntil we meet againâ)
