Every year, I try to help in my garden groups, and every year, I try to keep my cool. I don't know if it's trolls or people who don't know what they are talking about, but they always suggest you pull out any questionable plant that has damage. Last year, it was yellowing from cold temperatures; this year, it is bruising and browning from wind damage. If you want to tear up your own garden, go ahead, but don't tell others to do it unless you absolutely know what you are talking about. I have spent my entire life gardening, so I have 50 years of experience and have dealt with many issues. You rarely ever tear out an entire plant, no matter what. Even if your plant has fungus starting, you only remove the affected branches. Please take any advice you get from the Internet with a tablespoon of salt and check with someone you know who is knowledgeable.

Things are ever-changing on a farm, especially in the Spring when you are planting and caring for your land. Last year, I started our food Forest with guilds of trees and supporting plants. This year I have been happily surprised by the number of surviving plants and volunteers. I
The gardens are taking less and less preparation each year and I am excited to see if the changing weather pattern brings us a more garden friendly summer.
Our breeding program is doing very well and we are on track to hit our goal numbers for next year. The babies born this year are the pork of next year. The farm is loaded with healthy and happy pigs.
On top of all of that, we are on track to open our on-farm store by the end of May. I will be selling our pork and pork products. Our farm raised vegetables and fruit. I will also be offering a selection of products made here on the farm and a small refillery. It's a busy time, but it's amazing to see the growth and be so close to a new beginning.

We did end up with a decent storm, so no tomatoes were planted today. I am glad I brought the tomato plants back inside because they would have been torn apart. Now they are calling for 30 mph winds this evening so they get to stay in the greenhouse for today.

We have had so little rain the weeds are struggling. Usually at this time of year the bastard cabbage is thick and the bees are loving it.

The third momma gave birth this morning. She gave us 10 total, with 9 live births. That puts us at 25 babies on the ground. Mom is tired but attentive. Pinky looks like she will give birth in the next 24 hours. This isn't surprising because bad weather is pushing in, and that always seems to bring the babies.

These Texas sunsets were one of the reasons I fell in love with this place. I believe finding this land was fate. I don't think I could have asked anything more. Now I am raising livestock, huge gardens and an orchard and I love every day of it.

These piglets were already born before I found the first group, but they were packed into a tight pile beside a log. I didn't see them until my husband came down to see the group of eleven. This is going to be an interesting weekend. 😁

I am so proud of these mommas! This was only one momma and she put them in the shade in a little bowl which I reinforced with some logs. I am keeping a close eye on them to make sure they don't go down the hill.

The watch begins as we come into the farrowing season. This is a heritage breed that matures more slowly than your more popular breeds. These babies will be ready for the market next year at this time. The piglet watch has begun!

Unless something catastrophic happens I should have amazing gardens this year. Oh no! Did I just curse myself? I have been working and planning and so far everything is on schedule, maybe a little ahead even. If you live in the Seguin, San Marcos or Luling Texas area I will have an amazing selection of seasonal produce and cut flowers available starting this Spring. I will also have a unique selection of plant starts available.

I am going with the theory that we won't have any more freezing temperatures. I have hundreds of seedlings in the greenhouse and now I am starting to get seeds in the ground. I am almost done with garden bed prep, which feels amazing. I can tell this is going to be a good year!
