In the ’70s, New York’s bohemia was devoted to hostile yet arty rock. Mr. Smith had two qualities rare in the scene: personal and musical understatement.

Thank you Linda & Bob of Hudson Valley Wine Magazine for telling Fred's story🍇🎶 Fred and I loved landing right in the middle of the Hudson Valley wine community after our first four vintages on Houston Street, NYC, always supported by family & friends. We learned so from winemakers, growers, educators and dear enthusiasts... Bob & Linda's Flint Mine Zweigelt plantings & harvests, Wine Dinners at the Culinary Institute of America, tastings and wine fests across New York State. Fred's World of Music, Wine & Friendship is large and loving.💙🌎🎶💜🍷🍇

When I first met Fred, I used take the Hoboken Ferry to visit him at the Guitar Bar.
Thank you Jim Mastro for loving Fred Smith.
You were literally his Best Man❣️❤️⚘️🍀

Guitar Bar would never have opened its doors in 1996 if it wasn’t for this man. Sure, I may have had the idea, but I knew it would’ve been impossible to fulfill without my friend FRED SMITH onboard to mentor me through this with his vast knowledge. He not only fixed broken things, watched my kids in the playpen in back when I had to run out, but he also brought the FUN! Many folks did not realize that the person helping them was also in one of the most influential bands of all-time, TELEVISION. Those that did were incredulous at how humble he was about it. He treated everyone with the same kindness, and it is the foundation upon which this store was built on, and it is the legacy he leaves behind. We will miss him greatly, but will honor him every day we open our doors. Photo: Richard Friedman

Many thanks to the amazing New York winemakers, educators and aficionados who have inspired our excellent wine adventure⚘️
Cereghino Smith had our first crush on Houston Street in NYC 10/28/1999.
After 4 vintages and being encouraged by friends & family, we moved to the beautiful Hudson Valley to pursue our passion and learn our craft.
After 25 years of presenting our wines at tastings in stores, restaurants, festivals and culinary arts schools, we concluded our wine journey on Friday 02/28/2025.
