Our Story

Fresh produce and local harvests are the main attraction at the La Vergne Farmers Market on Tuesdays from 3:00- 7:00 p.m. from June through September. The market is located at the walking trail on the Senior Center Campus at 337 Stones River Road. Local vendors provide fresh honey and free range chicken eggs, agricultural products, organic meat, fruits, garden vegetables and more. The weekly booth fee is $15 and all funds are being earmarked for the La Vergne Senior Center. The Parks and Recreation Department partnered with the La Vergne Public Library on the Farmers Market initiative. “This partnership gives us the opportunity to teach skills and expand knowledge about food, health and agriculture,” said Library Director Donna Bebout. “We anticipate that we will be able to develop library programs that talk about healthy food choices, how our grandparents grew and preserved food, or how to donate organic produce to a local food pantry, for example. We will tie-in some of our programs with the Farmers Market and hope our residents and patrons will participate in both.” Parks & Recreation Director A.C. Davis said there is room for a dozen or more vendors, “We want the Farmers Market shoppers to have a diverse, affordable selection of locally grown or raised products to choose from. We will try to be flexible so that the Farmers Market can expand during peak harvest season.” Applicants are eligible if they provide any of the following: homegrown product, organic meats/eggs, and other agricultural items for human consumption. We also accept a limited amount of homemade/handmade products. Vendors must provide their own tents, tables, and chairs. No electricity is available, but the market directors may approve quiet generators. All market product prices must be posted so they are visible to the public. In the event of rain, the fee will be applied to the following Tuesday market.
