I LOVED last night's Democratic National Convention.
I cried on and off throughout with sincere hope and respect and relief...and tremendous sadness.
My Mother, Debbie Zerbe, passed away on Sunday. She was a diehard Democrat and as a younger woman volunteered much with the League of Women Voters in PA.
I wanted so much for her to bear witness to the election of the first American female President. Just a week ago she said she doubted it could happen.
When it does, I will have the memory of her as one of the original woman libs first and foremost in my mind.
I will cast my vote in November in her honor.

Lucas and his family had been regular customers at the Labadie Market.
We remember his many visits, time spent, and conversations shared with great fondness.
In lieu of flowers his family is asking for donations to be made to NAMI, National Alliance on Mental Illness, in honor of Lucas.

Today, on Giving Tuesday, donations made to NAMI appear to be matched via their website at donate.nami.org/give

Lucas Schmidt
Febraury 15, 1992 - November 22, 2019

Lucas Phillip Schmidt was born on February 15, 1992 and passed away unexpectedly on November 22, 2019.

To know Lucas was to love Lucas. There were not many moments that you wouldn’t hear his infectious laugh or see him smiling. He touched so many lives and truly amplified the goodness in everyone. He made so many great friends at Saint Francis Borgia High School where he participated in theatre, specifically his big role as Charlie in the school production of W***y Wonka, and Football. He went on to obtain his Applied Science Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management from Stephens Institute of Business and Arts. Lucas was one of a kind. His fire for life will continue to burn in each and every person that loved him. He was everything this world needed and more.

Lucas is survived by his parents, Charles Schmidt Jr. and Pamela Schmidt, his brother and sister, Bryce and Kaprise Schmidt, and his paternal grandparents, Charles Schmidt Sr. and Arlene Schmidt. Lucas also left behind three uncles, Eric Bosco-Schmidt, Tony Bosco-Schmidt and Timothy Williamson, his aunt, Sandra Williamson, and his five cousins that he cared deeply about (Elisha Williamson, Amanda Williamson, Jacob Williamson, Maya Bosco-Schmidt and Tyler Bosco-Schmidt). Lucas will be deeply missed by all of his friends and extended family.

Memorial visitation for Lucas will be at Neiburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home in Washington, MO on December 7, 2019 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers his family is asking for donations to be made to NAMI, National Alliance on Mental Illness, in honor of Lucas.

August 30th - HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DORIE!!!!!
So much thanks for the countless memories and birthday cakes DORIE showered upon us and so many of the customers for nearly 17 years. We certainly miss her birthday celebrations of anyone and everyone at the Market who would allow her to bake for them!

As one of its original founders and 15 year manager of the Labadie Market and Deli (January 2000 - July 2015), I am deeply sorry to see it shuttered by its second owner in charge since its first sale in 2015.
Despite The Market's closing though, I will keep this page open for nostalgia's sake and I do hope for the best for the new restaurant seeking success at this location.
