With the amount of jalapeños being harvested at this point in the season, one of my favorite ways to use them is by making jalapeño poppers. 🌶🌶 If you like making your jalapeño poppers hot like I do, try out this recipe next time you make them.
Ingredients:
- 15 jalapeños
- One 8 oz. block of cream cheese
- 3/4 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
- Four slices of cooked bacon
- One orange habanero
- 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder
- Cooking spray
- Salt
- Black pepper
Pre-preparation:
- Set the block of cream cheese out to soften for 4 hours before mixing.
- Turn your oven to 400 degrees and cook your bacon for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, flip the bacon over and cook for an additional 7 minutes or until done/crispy.
- Once bacon is done, remove bacon from oven and place on paper toweling to drain excess grease.
- Find gloves to wear during preparation to keep your hands protected from chili burn while cutting and handling the peppers.
Preparation:
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Wash the jalapeños and place them on a cutting board.
- Wearing gloves, cut the jalapeños in half lengthwise.
- Scrape the seeds and inner membrane (also called the placenta) out of the peppers using a spoon and discard.
- Remove the stem from the habanero and finely chop the entire pepper.
- Take the 4 slices of bacon and finely chop them.
- With gloved hands, mix the cream cheese, cheddar cheese, chopped bacon, habanero, and garlic in a mixing bowl. Add dashes of salt and pepper to taste.
- Once everything is mixed, begin to scoop the filling into the halves of the peppers.
- Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray and place the pepper halves on the sheet.
- Put the poppers in the oven at 400 degrees for 5 minutes.
- After 5 minutes move the poppers to the bottom oven rack and broil them for an additional 5 minutes.
- Let the poppers cool and enjoy!
