A walk in the woods always comes with a sense of wonder, but these five hiking trails have some extra wow factor. And they're all perfect low-elevation hikes to explore in spring while higher elevation trails dry! The Peninsula Nature Trails are right outside downtown Lake Placid, but you'll feel in a world of your own. Enjoy lakeside views of Lake Placid itself! High Falls Gorge offers spectacular waterfall views from bridges and boardwalks that crisscross the gorge. (Fee for entry) The Heaven Hill Trails are just as they sound—heavenly! Weave through the network of wooded trails, or break out into the orchard for expansive views and wildflowers. Roaring Brook Falls offers two views: one from below and above! Trek to the bottom of the falls to gaze up at the cascade, or stand at the top for a unique view of nearby High Peaks. Wanika Falls via the Northville-Placid Trail offers the ultimate in solitude, with lush forests and babbling water transporting you to another world. While it's ok to have your head in the clouds while you hike, make sure you are fully prepared for the adventure! Ride the longest mountain coaster in North America! The Cliffside Coaster at Mt Van Hoevenberg opens June 3 for the 2026 season with a ride you don't want to miss. Explore Olympic history as you ascend, then fly down the historic 1980 bobsled track through sharp corners, cliffside banks, and long winding track.
