We are thrilled to announce that the zoning board approved our plans for the new business! We are thankful to this community for all of your support. We are excited to bring back all of your old favorites including chicken salad, cider doughnuts, delicious pies, and more, with a grand opening planned for this spring.

Hi everyone! It’s been a long time coming, but our family is hoping to open a market at a new location in Middletown. We have been waiting for the right opportunity to arrive, and we are hopeful this is it. All of this is pending a zoning change to be determined at the upcoming zoning board meeting on Wednesday 10/8. If we receive approval, we would be thrilled to serve this community one more time. We would greatly appreciate any support from local Middletown residents. The best way to help is by attending the zoning meeting on Wednesday at 7:00 PM at the township building if you are able!

We had the best time celebrating our team last night. It was wonderful to all be together again! And when you have a party full of bakers you wind up with so many delicious desserts that no one eats any cake 😊 We’ve missed everyone and we miss all of you!

Since we opened our doors in 2000, the community we have loved to serve has shown us nothing but kindness, and it has never been more abundant or important than over these past few months. Our gratitude to each of you is inexpressible.

When we posted our story following the vote not to renew our lease, we never expected so many people to advocate for us. Whether it was signing the petition, sharing our story with others, coming in to shop, or expressing a kind word of support, you have been such a comfort to us during one of the darkest times of our lives.

There are especially no words to express our gratitude to the 35+ volunteers who worked tirelessly with us to meet the unbelievable timeline of closing our business and leaving in just 57 days. We could have never done it without you.

Friends from nearby neighborhoods and many hours away selflessly sacrificed their time to help, often coming after a long day of work at their own jobs. Ages ranging from early twenties to early eighties, these gracious and kind individuals truly were a lifeline of support in this painful and nearly insurmountable task. We are grateful to each one of you. You have shown us grace and compassion when it seemed to be non-existent by those around us, making egregious demands and decisions. Thank you dear friends - some we’ve never met, but all we will never forget.

We turned over the keys and walked through this place for the last time today. This place that has always felt warm and familiar and brimming with memories and people we love. This place where the ovens still smelled like pies and a few stray cars pulled into the parking lot to see if we were open. We know that in time everyone will move on from this. We know that our time here will be a memory. Maybe someday we’ll move on, too, but today we are grieving while we say goodbye to this place. This place that has felt like an old dear friend.

Our dad started working when he was 13 years old. Our grandfather owned a grocery store in Trenton and our dad watched and learned everything he knew from him. This picture has been in our dad’s office at the market for at least a decade, and it’s all packed up now. Our grandpop passed away in 2008 but he would certainly be so proud of our dad and the business he built.

From Gina Artillio:

Today, I walked into the store for the last final time. The words that I said to my mom, “I might just have ptsd after leaving.” (I was trying to be funny to hide my feelings). It took a minute for everything to sink in, then I told her I had to go before I was going to cry. The tears flowed before I even walked out the door.
This. This was my second home. Where I saw many faces of employees from the time I was kid, until I started working right behind this counter. Became friends with coworkers, and customers. It’s been a hard day to process this. You might just think this was “just a store.” But to me, it’s home. I’m literally left with nothing to say besides my heart is aching more than it ever did the last few weeks💔

Pictures of Gina when she first learned how to write on a cake in 2014 and when the store first opened after renovations in 2000.

These are from 21 years ago when the building was being renovated. So much time, work, and money to make it what it was. It was a labor of love. Sad to see it so empty again.

From Miranda Roman

In November of 2016 I was welcomed to the Styer’s family. In the beginning I thought it was just going to be a second job for me and extra income, however that quickly changed. Styer’s Market soon became my family. They truly treated me like their own and have been there always. Over the past 5 years I have grew so many relationships and am so thankful for each and every one. Today was a hard and very sad day but I know things will work out in the end. Cherish the memories we have and keep pushing 💞

Mom and Dad, we are so proud of you. Of who you are, of how hard you’ve worked, and of what you’ve given to the community. This isn’t the ending that we wanted for you and it’s not in any way the one you deserved, but there are things that can’t be taken from you and they are so much more valuable than the things that were.
