We are so excited to start the summer season this week!!! You can count on the Allen Farmers Market to have live music and/or entertainment every week, craft vendors, and this summer we have more produce vendors than ever before!

To celebrate the start of the summer season this week, enjoy live music throughout the afternoon from our DJ Takeover featuring Big Sherm, DJ Dolo, Patino, and guest appearances from Ozay Moore! We will also have craft vendors Tano Studio & With Love, By Liz. Tåno Studio will be bringing nature inspired jewelry while With Love, By Liz will have catnip cat toys, framed artwork, stamped laminated prints, flower-topped pens, collages, handmade stickers & magnets. Get a gift for yourself or a friend while supporting our local artisans!

Many thanks to our sponsor, Lansing Common FC for kicking off the summer season with us! They will have t-shirts and scarves available for purchase as well a chance to win free tickets to their matches this summer! Owned by Ben and Maddy and their little ones, Linden and Aldo, Bendy Stem Farm is a small native plant nursery located near Dimondale, Michigan, rooted in a passion for sustainable landscaping and native ecosystems. Since purchasing their property in 2018, they have transformed it into a space filled with native trees, shrubs, and herbaceous perennials to build and continually expand native pollinator gardens.

What began as just a shared interest in gardening and native plants has grown into a full-time venture, with Ben stepping into the role in 2022 to help increase access to native plants for homeowners. Be sure to check them out this Wednesday at the Market!

Experience Lansing’s first vegan-friendly and allergy-friendly food truck! Started by Lansing locals Brian Kho and Karrie Blaharski, Picnic A Food Truck's mission is to provide quality meals that everyone can enjoy, with non-vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-friendly options alike. They started their business in 2017 and have been on the road since 2018, but Allen Farmers Market has been a fixture for years. They love the community here at the market and the collaboration between neighbors and vendors, all of whom they are proud to serve with foods made from local, whole ingredients. One of their most popular menu items are their brussels sprouts, which are fried and deliciously seasoned with goat cheese, garlic, lemon, fresh herbs, and pomegranate. They also have an array of burgers and sandwiches, along with a seasonally rotating menu that you don’t want to miss. Be sure to check them out at the Market this week!

You have two more weeks to receive unlimited Double Up Food Bucks! Then, with the start of our summer season on May 13th, the Double Up Food Bucks will be capped at a $50 match. Our tokens never expire, so you don't have to worry about spending them all in one Market visit. Visit the Market this week and the next for unlimited Double Up Food Bucks earnings!

Three Lakes Gardens is adding bok choy to their offerings this week! To make space for more of their spring offerings, they are offering 50% off their delicious Turmeveda Hot Cocoa! If you haven't checked the forecast this week, there are some chilly evenings that their hot cocoa blend will be perfect for!

Whispering Valley Farms has new products! This week they're introducing their all beef brats with flavors including: cherry cayenne, pineapple teriyaki, mushroom swiss, beef cheese, and bacon cheese. They're also restocked on some of their most popular items like beef tongue and oxtail. Read on for more information about them in our vendor spotlight section.

Purple Willow Farmstead has a snazzy new maple syrup and honey display. Built by their neighbors at Thelen Sugarshack (whose trees they help tap), their syrup and honey options are much more visible for you to peruse. It'll also help them in the summer season to create more space for fresh produce at their booth!

Owned by Williamston locals Courtney, Jeff, and Kira Whispering Valley Farms is a family homestead rooted in sustainable, regenerative farming practices and animal husbandry. Alongside the farm kiddos Emrhynn, Bo, and CC they raise cattle, poultry, and pork with the belief that “The Earth Speaks Here.” Some of the products they offer include farm-to-freezer favorites like jerky, ham, and bacon, along with restocked items like beef tongue and oxtail. They’re also introducing new all-beef brats this week in flavors like cherry cayenne, pineapple teriyaki, mushroom swiss, beef cheese, and bacon cheese.

Whispering Valley Farms also has a new, exciting opportunity through their loyalty program: a FREE meat box! Refer a friend, and when they buy $50 worth of product or more, you receive a free meat box!

The Allen Farmers Market officially kicks off the 22nd outdoor season on May 13th and we will be dancing with excitement and good tunes the whole Market thanks to DJ Big Sherm, Patino, & DJ Dolo! We have over 25 local food vendors this season & for this first Market on May 13th, you can expect craft vendors Tåno Studio and With Love, By Liz. A big thank you to our sponsor, Lansing Common FC, for supporting the first farmers' market of the season! ⚽️

Visiting us at the Market is the perfect way to celebrate Earth Day year-round! On average, food travels over 1,000 miles from the point of production to retail stores. In contrast, all of our vendors are less than 60 miles away from us. Growers selling at markets minimize the amount of waste and pollution they create. Many use certified organic or chemical-free practices, reducing the amount of synthetic pesticides and chemicals that pollute our soil and water. A growing number are also adopting other low-impact practices, such as on-site composting, that help mitigate climate change and other environmental issues. By supporting our vendors you're also supporting the environment and promoting the sustainability that goes hand in hand with their livelihoods. In the spirit of Earth Day, consider walking to the Market this Wednesday, it's supposed to be 70 and sunny! 😎

In honor of Earth Day, from 4 - 5PM The MidMichigan Environmental Action Council (MidMEAC) will hold a watershed education workshop outside. Then, at 5:30PM join Eastside Compost in the conference room for a workshop about composting in the neighborhood. Divert your food waste from the landfill and help build high-quality soil for local Lansing gardeners!

We hope you will visit the Market this week for your weekly grocery shopping, in addition to learning more about how to steward our Earth through composting and protecting our water!
