It all started with a friend who had goats and made goat's milk soap and another friend who wanted to give me a Nubian buck.
I have super sensitive skin, always have. This led to many different products being tried to help with dry skin. My friend who makes soap told me about how good it is for your skin. And she was right! I no longer have dry skin since using goat's milk soap. I decided I could probably make soap. My mom made soap when I was a kid using lard from our pigs. Now all I had to do was convince my husband we needed goats! Here is where the other friend came in. She wanted to give me a buck and Greg wasn't going to tell her no. So we got him (Daniel) and started gathering goats. I am not sure how many goats have come through this place (I am sure Greg could tell you). Rose was one of the first we picked up. I have had as many as 20 or 30 something at times when I had babies and am down to just 14 right now. It seems such a small amount right now but we have added so many other animals. We now have sheep, a couple jersey cows, beef cows, rabbits, guineas and chickens (so many chickens!).
I enjoy making soap and teaching others to make soap. I always have soap available and I am always available to talk about goats. We have learned so much over the last 6 years. I am also thinking about teaching classes on soap making in the future. I post all this to say, find something you love and do that! I enjoy my homesteading/farm life so much more than I could imagine. And if you ever have questions or want to purchase soaps, jams, jellies or eggs (again so many chickens!) message me! I would love to chat!
