Lion’s Mane is a pretty amazing mushroom. Foods that look like specific organ parts usually benefit those parts of the body the most. When you cut open lion’s mane, it does look a lot like brain matter. Much research has been done on the benefits of lion’s mane for brain health, memory and mood.

I am currently working on an alcohol-free, triple extraction lion’s mane tincure. It will be made with organic vegetable glycerin, organic apple cider vinegar and distilled water with my brand new commercial distiller. 😃

These will be made in the large size and available next week on my website. I have also done some updates to my overall procedures and added information to the website on the benefits of soxhlet extraction and triple extraction methods. I will be making new batches of my tinctures to offer an even more concrentrated product. Go check out the website and let me know what you think. 😊

I harvested about 5 lbs of fresh shiitake today and found some turkey tail nearby. Mushrooms love heavy rains like we had over the weekend. Dehydrated shiitakes are now available on the website as well.

I was able to get in the lab this week and make a new batch of the Immunity Blend. It is a dual extraction tincture of turkey tail with distilled water and organic vegetable glycerin.

I make this tincture for children and dogs due to the very limited amount of alcohol in the tincture. Roxy is 15 years old and I have been giving her this tincture for 2 years now.

I use a very small amount of organic sugar cane alcohol to first soak the turkey tail for 24 hours. This helps to start the extraction process and almost all of the alcohol is evaporated by the end of the procedure. I then run the extaction process for 8 hours using a soxhlet extractor. The water extracts the polar compounds and the glycerin extracts the non-polar beneficial compounds.

The liquid starts out clear and you can see how vibrant the color is of the extraction by the end of the run. Turkey tail is so beneficial and I love making this tincture.

Fall is mushroom log season! It is the perfect time for scouting and marking trees for Shiitake and Oyster cultivation while there are still leaves on the trees.

* Scout, identify and mark trees with spray paint to harvest when trees go dormant
*Use an App such as Plant Identify to help find the tree species best suited for your mushroom strain
*Begin harvesting trees in late October or early November in Georgia based on leaf drop and color change
