Happy Saturday!

We have started moving towards some fall produce and fruits so come by and see what’s popping up. It may be hot out still but we can pretend it’s fall with the food on our plate!

You can also stop by our info booth and purchase a $5 raffle ticket for a chance to win two tickets to our Sustainable Supper on Sept 24th. We’ve decided to award two people this year so double the luck!

Chef Finn of Sable Kitchen + Bar came out to enjoy a beautiful morning at the Market! As one of the featured chefs preparing dishes for our Sustainable Supper on September 24, Finn knew he wanted to create something using the summer squash available from our vendors.

He stopped by Juniper Hill Farms, JET Produce And Meats and LCG Farms to pick up several varieties of squash along with some fresh herbs. From there, he created a local squash salad by thinly slicing and salting the squash, allowing it to soften and release some of its water. That water became the base for a bright dressing made with good olive oil, lemon juice, lemon zest and pepper. Finn gently arranged the squash on the plate and finished it with pine nuts, Himmelsberg cheese from Skyview Farm in Pleasanton, more pepper and another drizzle of olive oil.

50 years of being vendor-run. 🌱

For 50 years, the Lawrence Farmers Market has been shaped by the people who show up each week to grow, bake, make, raise, harvest, and sell the food and goods you find at Market.

Being vendor-run means our vendors aren’t simply selling at the Market, they have a voice in how it operates. Vendor members vote, elect members of our Board of Directors, serve on the Board and Committees, and help make decisions about everything from Market guidelines and hours to fees, budgets, and the future of the Market.

That structure has helped keep the Market connected to the people producing the food and goods sold here. As the Market has grown and changed over five decades, vendors have continued to have a direct role in deciding what comes next.

50 years of farmers supporting farmers, vendors supporting vendors, and the people who make the Market helping run the Market.

We’re opening up TWO MORE tickets to our Sustainable Supper raffle, which means there are now even more chances to win!

Sustainable Supper is an evening celebrating local food and the people who produce it, with local chefs creating a multi-course meal featuring ingredients from Lawrence Farmers Market vendors.

What a beautiful Saturday morning at the Market!

The tables were filled with apples, eucalyptus, figs, persimmons, salad mix, and peppers—soooo many peppers! Shoppers left with arms brimming with flowers, and we loved seeing so many of our tie-dye shirts throughout the crowd.

We also kicked off raffle ticket sales for our Sustainable Supper. Don’t worry if you missed your chance, you can purchase tickets at next Saturday’s Market, too!

Thank you to all the eager shoppers who came out and spent the morning with us. We were so happy to see you, and we’ll see you next week!

There’s something special about seeing local ingredients travel from the farmers’ market to a beautifully prepared dish!

We recently followed Jake of Meadowlark Wine Bar around the market as he picked up cucumbers from Peters Family Farm, watermelon from Juniper Hill Farms and salted popcorn from JET Produce And Meats for an event. He transformed those ingredients into dishes including cucumber broth and compressed watermelon topped with salted popcorn.

We were especially excited to spend the morning with Jake because he will be one of six local chefs preparing the courses for our Sustainable Supper on September 24th. Watch the video to follow these ingredients from the market to the prep table and, finally, to the finished plate, it’s an exciting process to see!

Lawrence Farmers Market became a nonprofit in 2010 with the mission to provide children and adults in the Lawrence, Kansas area with locally grown foods and farm products. This will be accomplished by improving access to local, healthy, affordable food through a direct farm-to-consumer marketing venue that will serve diverse populations, including those of low income.

Other goals that the Lawrence Farmers Market strives to achieve are increased education and support of Lawrence-area agriculture. The Lawrence Farmers Market believes that small, local farms are essential to the local economy and is committed to making economic and educational connections between Lawrence-area residents and local farmers.

In 2021 we created our free Kid Activity Programs and Loyalty Card Program and in 2024 we created the Double Up Protein Bucks Program. All of these programs help our mission to improve access of local foods with the farmers and makers who work so hard to feed our community.

In 2024 we launched our first annual fundraiser, the Sustainable Supper, an outdoor farm-to-table dinner, held at a local farm. This event helps to raise necessary funds to make our programs sustainable and keep our Vendor fees accessible to allow us to focus on strengthening our local food system.
