The end of August has arrived and as heat is still here we come into September eagerly awaiting the arrival of baby chicks. As we were planning for this, it was time to get the feed order and we had an exciting day unloading the truck from Peterson Organic Feeds.

First of all I can't say enough about this mill. Their customer service is above any I've recieved elsewhere and the quality is always top notch. This brings me to remind you of the type of feed and how we stress about quality and what the chickens we raise receive. This is 100% organic certified feed. On top of that, it is corn and soy free as well. Why is that important?

Well, first off, those with food allergies can feel safe to eat our delicious chicken. A food allergy is when your body sees food proteins as foreign and then launches an inflammatory response to fight off and drive out that foreign invader. One of our goals is to try our best to keep the chance of genetically modified proteins coming into our digestive system. Even an organic farmer can't stop the wind from pollinating the neighbors conventional Monsanto corn. Call us "crazy" but we think that it is a greater chance this is getting into even most organic corn feeds.

Second, soy is about 85% gmo grown and also has a decent size list of side effects that are even being recognized by the mainstream that degrade our health. One is their high content of phytoestrogens. High levels of phytoestrogens have been linked to hypothyroidism and different types of cancer. Soy, though being high in protein, is generally low in vitamin and nutrient content. This traditional high protein feed stock can and should be replaced by more nutrient dense forms.

The balanced Organic No Soy No Corn feed from Petersons contains: peas, milo, fishmeal, wheat, alfalfa, oats, sunflower meal, molasses, sunflower oil, fertrell poultry nutribalancer, calcium carbonate, and diatomaceous earth. We find this to be an extremely HIGH QUALITY FEED that produces some of the most flavorful tender chicken that you know is completely unadulterated.
