While I really appreciate this breed, there are drawbacks. This bull calf will be ready to work in February 2029. What I call mainstream cattle breeds mature in half that time. Any beef we sell has three hay seasons and winters worth of care that go into it. A lot of time for things to go wrong, but high quality beef takes time.

Glad to see the sun come out and get on the back side of the storm. These girls went through some hay the last three days, and I’m pretty sure that’s a donkeycicle in the middle. The smart ones were in the barn stalls and storm sheds - I guess these want to be the tough ones.

Happy New Year! I know these posts aren’t exactly riveting, but I want you to know where you’re beef comes from and what we’ve been up to. We spent the last two years beginning to shape the herd the way we want it. We have mostly Belted Galloway with some American (black) Galloway mixed in - no difference except color. And we had to keep the donkey - even though she can open gates…
