Snap update

This afternoon Massachusetts scored a major victory: A federal judge directed President Trump and his administration to use its contingency fund to provide SNAP recipients their needed benefits, and ordered President Trump and his administration to report back to the court on Monday, November 3 with a timeline for doing so. 

While this is a positive outcome, November SNAP benefits are not being sent this weekend. While we wait for more clarity from President Trump and his administration, it is unclear when November benefits will begin to be paid and in what amount. 📢 Important HIP + SNAP Update!!

As the federal shutdown continues, SNAP benefits for November have not been released. Starting November 1, over 1 million Massachusetts residents may lose access to food assistance unless the situation changes. This would be the first time in our nation’s history that this critical nutrition program goes unfunded.

Here’s what you need to know:

HIP will continue to run in Massachusetts even if November SNAP benefits aren’t issued. To keep accessing HIP and our Market Match funds, you must have at least 1 penny left on your EBT card.

Thanks to the generosity of , as long as there’s a balance of just one penny, we’ll continue to offer up to $30 in Market Match funds. If SNAP funds are unavailable, you won’t need to spend $30 to receive the match — just keep that penny on your card and you’ll still be able to access fresh, local food.

We know this is a challenging moment for many. Our market community will continue to stand together, to nourish one another, and to ensure access to good food for all.
