Thawing meat the right way helps keep it safe and tasting its best. Here are three reliable methods:

In the Refrigerator - The safest option. Move your meat from the freezer to the refrigerator and allow enough time to thaw. Most cuts need about 24 hours, while larger roasts or turkeys may take longer.

In Cold Water - Need it sooner? Keep the meat in a leak proof package and submerge it in cold water. Change the water every 30 minutes until thawed. Cook it right away once it's ready.

In the Microwave - Use the defrost setting when you're short on time. Since some areas may begin to cook during thawing, the meat should be cooked immediately after defrosting.

One tip to remember: Never thaw meat on the kitchen counter. Room temperature allows bacteria to multiply much more quickly than refrigerated or cold water thawing.
