The best part about free choice minerals is this☝🏼

I know that they know what they need, when they need it. Different seasons call for different minerals. Milking, growing babies, nutrient deficient winter, or grass filled summers, they self medicated and all I have to do is keep the feeders full. No scheduled copper boluses, no checking iodine levels👌🏼 just nature doing it's thing!

This is what happens when all they've had for a few weeks is mixed minerals. I was waiting on the next shipment of minerals (and time) so most of the mineral buckets have been empty for a while. I fully expect the Iodine and copper to be gone by tonight or tomorrow, but once they regulate what they need in their bodies, sometimes it will sit in there for a week or so.

But with 10 goats in milk, keeping their minerals up is vital to so many things, especially healthy immune systems and naturally battling parasites.

Building fence with lots of helpers💞

It's been bittersweet planning the new build with knowing that I'm leaving behind so many memories in these pastures and the barn that made me a farmer. No matter if it's right next door or miles down the road, every fence post, every snagged wire here has a story.

We have rebuilt the inside of the barn so many times to work for whatever animal I drag home. From chickens and horses to goats and cows, these walls have seen every success... and failure.

And while I'm excited for the next chapter, and dreaming and planning, knowing it's going to be 1000 times better,

I remember the sleepless nights in the lawn chair on baby watch, bundled in my sleeping bag and winter clothes. (Thank the Lord for cameras!)

Watching my goat that I thought was done at 2 kids pop out another 3 a few hrs later.

Lunging my horse around and around, teaching her voice commands

Gates so dinged up and bent because the horses thought standing on them was a brilliant idea🤦🏽‍♀️

Watching kids attempt to ride my goats around the pasture

I'm so glad the memories stay even when we get to move on to new things. 💞

For the low, low price of your sanity, you too can lead a parade of cows across the back 40 to fetch that one cow that refuses to be normal and come in. All you need is an empty bucket...

Said bucket was empty because we had already dumped their feed in the feed trough (which they saw) but because I still carried the power wielding bucket they decided to re-trek the acres to retrieve their friend... And get the non-existent feed.

To be fair it was more of the side 10 than the back 40... But who's counting.

🎉Introducing the latest addition to the cow herd! We are still working on a name, so if you have any suggestions, comment them below!

This girl knows how to strut her stuff! An old hand at the show ring, she is now settled in to join the dairy herd come Aug/Sept. Already taller than our current Brown Swiss, she's going to be one massive cow💕

This mamma has designated herself the calf wrangler.... But sometimes I think she's just the tag along... This little red heifer is turning into quite the instigator.
