79 tons or approximately 55 cubic yards of spent Mushroom Compost from an organic mushroom farm outside Avondale, PA. Feed the soil and let the soil feed the plants.
Now we get to apply all 55 cubic yards, one 5 gallon bucket at a time. Seriously. We transport it to the end of each bed using the front end loader on our tractor. Then from there, we distribute the compost to each bed by bucket to keep the tractor out of the growing area. Farm fit, fo realz. Each bed gets two to three loaders full or 20 to 30 buckets per bed. Which takes about 10 to 12 minutes per bed if you're busting ass. We only do about 3 beds in any given session. We're in our late 40s after all. Even at that pace, it won't take long to put a dent in that pile of black gold. Along with splitting wood for the greenhouse woodstove, it'll be a good fall and winter activity to keep our inner furnace stoked.
