Thank you to those who tried our home delivery program this weekend. With the St. George farmers market closed we decided to offer this service this weekend. We expected 8-10 orders. We got 42 and delivered all day Saturday and Sunday.

There is definitely an excitement for food. Your responses and conversations were so encouraging.

As some of you may know, Wholesun Farms is managed by Growing for Wellness LLC . And although GFW is an Arizona LLC, we (the owners of GFW) live in Salt Lake. We come down every weekend to make sure we are bringing you the healthiest farm fresh produce possible.

As the months continue, so will our availability and our service. We look forward to providing you only the freshest food possible. Thanks again for a great weekend. Look for Nancy next weekend at the St George farmers Market from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. It will likely be our last time for a while.

And don’t forget to take home everything for your thanksgiving dinner, including our Pomegranates.

Long post- but please read.

Dear supporters of Wholesun Farms, (the farm on Old Pioneer Road)

WE NEED YOUR HELP

Perhaps you had read of our event on October 14th. This has been planned as a farm festival and art show with free gardening classes and children’s activities, free cut flowers, artists displaying their work and live music. Unfortunately a couple of disapproving neighbors contacted Mohave County and complained. We were informed that we were not allowed to do this, as it would take a special use permit. In fact it seems that each of our Saturday morning and Wednesday evenings open markets also require this similar approval process. So unfortunately, not only are we having to cancel this event, as there is not enough time to get the permit, but we are also going to have to cancel being able to sell from our farm.

Over the next few months we will be working to apply for the needed paperwork to provide future events. However, with opposition from neighbors, we may still not be able to achieve this.

As some of you may know, we recently sponsored a fundraiser for the elementary school PTO in support of the schools new garden. We donated crops that were then sold at the school on their art night. We are excited to be a good community partner. Unfortunately, this new complication now even prevents the elementary school coming to the garden for a Halloween pumpkin activity we had been hoping to do.

Our goals for next year and the year after include a small corn maze for children, an heirloom tomato demonstration garden featuring hundreds of old fashioned tomatoes, a children’s pumpkin patch, u pick crops, farm made salsa and soups to enjoy onsite, cut flowers and bouquet production (including our now famous zinnias) and many other ways that you and your family can connect with nature, have an educational resource, be able to buy the freshest and healthiest produce around and have an all around community center for events, all from our farm. We even have a place we believe can make for a great amphitheater for the community. There is also a small forest section of our property we know you will love to use as a place to relax.

Our focus is about healing. We are growing to heal the land, mind, body and soul. We know that by using good farming practices, we can help accomplish these things while providing you a community centered facility you will be proud of.

Yes, it is unfortunate that just one or two neighbors can cause us to not be able to provide you and your family the hands on opportunities you have begun to enjoy this summer. But we are patient and know we will still become that community focused place a working farm can be for this area.

But we still have a way you can purchase our fresh produce. We will now start providing a weekly deliver service beginning in the Beaverdam/Littlefield area and expanding out. This will be about $20 a week for a box of assorted produce, plants and flowers delivered to your door. We are still working on the details and will post them shortly.

However, we desperately need your help to once again allow for you to come to our farm for all the things mentioned above, as well as the confidence in seeing first hand where and how your food is grown. We need to know you want us here. When we make application to comply with Mohave County, we expect certain neighbors to oppose us. Their reasons are their own and they are entitled to them. We just wish they shared the vision of what we are trying to bring to the area. However, we believe we have already demonstrated we want to be a strong supporting member of this community. We will be circulating a petition encouraging Mohave County to allow this and hope you will sign it. We would also greatly appreciate any testimonials, either written or video, showing your support of our farm and being able to visit here.

It is also important that when the time comes, the Mohave Board of Supervisors know of your support. We hope you will email them and ask them to support Wholesun Farm’s application.

Please wholeheartedly support Wholesun Farms.

Thank you for any help you can give.

Today is Wednesday and we will be selling from the farm tonight from 5-7.

And we have a great deal tonight.

We will have several mix and match As Is containers of produce for $10 each. They will be worth more than $10 but may have some slight issues such as scars or bruises. We will make sure you get a great deal.

Also, tonight only, bring you own vase to the farm and fill it up for FREE with as many zinnias as you can put in it up to 25. You pick and cut the stems you want.

And we now have more watermelons available again. We have had some amazingly juicy melons. However, we were told a couple of you got melons that were not ripe yet. If you did, just come get another one. We always want to make things right.

One more fun thing coming on now is our purple basil plants. These rich tasting basil plants will give you a continual source for picking your own for weeks to come.

See you at 5:00 tonight. Don’t forget to bring your vase.

Hello everybody. Here is a long newsletter type update on the farm next to VA Nursery on Old Pioneer Road in Beaverdam.

We have been posting now fairly regularly trying to show off the good things happening. My name is Shane Siwik and I own Growing for Wellness LLC. We are the management company contracted by Wholesun Farms LLC to oversee the growing and selling of plants, flowers and veggies both in the greenhouse and in the field.

As a company, my priorities are
Productivity—-we need to produce as much product as we can

Wellness (since it’s part of our name)—- we strive to grow healthy chemical free plants that will help “heal the land, mind, body and soul” (our slogan).

Sustainability—-that we use farming methods that utilize natural resources properly such as compost and manures.

Education— We want to be a place of learning for everybody. We will be having FREE gardening classes and workshops throughout the year for everybody to gain a better knowledge of gardening, nutrition and even food preservation.

Community—- We want to be a place the community can feel proud to have in their neighborhood by becoming a gathering spot for different events such as classes, school partnered field trips, U Pick events and much much more.

These 5 things are what guide my vision in how I want to run Growing for Wellness and help Wholesun Farms grow.

Here are some things to watch for in the future.

We are now beginning to really have some fun stuff coming on. Within the next few weeks/months there will be yellow watermelon, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, winter squash, okra and much more.

Zinnias—-Crazy Price

One of the things we planted tons of were zinnias. These simply annuals are heat and drought tolerant, will help repel some insects, can get 3 feet tall, have huge blooms and can last over a week in a vase. Well, we planted several thousands of them and are about to plant a second batch since they are so fast growing. Zinnias are a beautiful and affordable addition to your weekly decorating. And to make them even more affordable, this Saturday (August 12th) we will be selling them both on site (7-10am) and at the Downtown St George Farmers’ Market for only $10 for a 30 stem bunch of assorted colors. That is only $0.33 a stem. If you would like to reserve a bunch, please send us a message.

In a pickle

Do you like to make your own pickles? Well, we will have a fall crop of pickling cucumbers on towards the end of September. We will be selling these at a bulk price of $20 for 15 pounds of assorted sizes. We will also have some dill and garlic available as well. These will only be available on a reserved basis. All orders must be placed between now and midnight Tuesday September 5th. Payment will be due upon pick up either at our site (which you can also pick your own cucumbers that day as well) or at the St George Farmers Market Saturday September 22nd or 29th.

PTO

We are supportive of the Beaverdam schools and are working to create some great opportunities to help them. Without going through details, just know you will see more information soon about upcoming sponsoring events.

Events at the Farm—-What do you want to see!

We want the farm to be a community common where everybody can gather and be focused on wellness and healing. Our goal is help “Heal the land, mind, body and soul.” What kind of activities would you like to see us do to help bring those things to pass?

If we had an art show for local artists to display their paintings and other art would you come?

We are planning a huge Gratitude sale/event in November right before Thanksgiving so you can get fresh food for your Thanksgiving Dinner. This will include some FREE activities as well.

Children’s gardening classes. Come pet the dwarf goats. Workshops. Blue grass music. Recipe exchanges. U Pick days. There are so many ways we can provide a sense of community not only for the Beaverdam/Littlefield area, but also for Mesquite and St George. What ideas do you have? What events would you come to?

We are always growing, literally and figuratively, as individuals and as communities. Let’s grow together.
