We did a thing yesterday.....
Strap in, it's story time!
We made a little drive yesterday to pick up a goat. Now I told myself we were NOT going to buy any goats in 2026, but that's not exactly what happened here.
We've been leasing our bucks to a small farm out in Ennis for several years now. Really amazing people who just wanted to keep a very small herd but did an outstanding job of keeping very well bred does. They really liked to milk thier does and did so with a dedication that most small farms only ever dream of. Because they didn't like to keep bucks they only bred a couple goats when nessisary and kept thier girls milking through.
So now we introduce miss Zara. She is a daughter of TUA Farms Zoom Party one of our reference herd sires (also sire to ) and a doe I told Ginnie I would buy a buck out of if she ever freshened again. She kidded as a yearling and then as a 2 yr old but hasn't kidded since and she'll be 6 this next spring. This doe has never had difficulty settling, she was just so good at milking they never dried her off!
I was definitely excited when Ginnie offered her to me! Yesterday was the day I drove out to Ennis. We got her home got her settled and she still milked well over 2 lbs despite all the excitement.
So if a Nigerian dwarf doe can still fill this much every day 40 MONTHS into lactation, yeah I'll be okay if it's not the biggest, or prettiest udder you've ever seen. We want genetics that milk, and boy howdy if that's not willingness to milk I don't know what is!
