Announcement: FEMA Film Crew Visit
On Monday, August 5th, 2024, a film crew from FEMA will visit North Londonderry to document the Old Londonderry Post Office Building, previously owned by Helen and Joe Grover, the Post Master and Post Mistress before the establishment of the USPS building in the shopping center. The crew will also film other notable locations in the North Village.
Through FEMA, we participated in a flood mitigation program to elevate the Old Post Office above flood levels. This elevation was completed before the flood on July 10, 2023, and we were thrilled to see that the building withstood the flood perfectly.
This film aims to showcase a FEMA success story and promote further flood mitigation efforts throughout the state. It will demonstrate that with building elevation and the construction of flood walls, some towns can successfully face future flooding challenges.
Our Congressional and Senatorial representatives have worked tirelessly to secure funds for these mitigation efforts. Londonderry is one of the towns where flood mitigation presents a viable solution for future flooding.
As it goes for us in Londonderry, many were skeptical about the Post Office Project. Today, we hope the town will view this project with a more constructive, "can-do" attitude.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the following people and businesses who put their doubts aside and helped us achieve the goal of saving one of downtown Londonderryโs buildings:
Chester Electric
Bruce Foster
Mark Roberts Plumbing and Heating
Adams Masonry
Connorโs Brothers Excavation and Building Elevation
Bevaquea Sheetrocking
Jim Fleming
Joe McKenna
Dwight and Bonny Johnson
Green Mountain Gardeners
Craig Ruggless
Eddie Charbonneau Painting
Vermont Foam Insulation
Iron Horse Roofing
Londonderry Hardware
Additionally, we would like to once again express our deepest gratitude to the unwavering volunteers who assisted us in the challenging days following the flood on July 10, 2023.
With Grateful Thanks,
Tom and Judy Platt
