In 1948, when Dittmer was just 12 years old he started working at his family's delicatessen in Hamburg, Germany. After working in several grocery stores and butcher shops, Dittmer and his wife Margaret Bubert decided it was time to open up their very own small business, Dittmer's Gourmet Meats & Wurst-Haus. Dittmer's collection of recipes were shaped from his German roots as well as many mentors h

e met along the way. His passion and drive of making quality sausages, lunch meats, and smoke meats led to many awards and loyal Customers. Today, Dittmer's legacy is carried on in Los Altos, California by his daughter Petra Silva.

A family business is more than a name on a sign—it’s a legacy.

My father, Dittmer Bubert, built Dittmer’s with hard work, pride, and a commitment to quality that became part of our family’s identity. I had the privilege of learning from him and working alongside him, and I am honored to continue what he started.

Today, Dittmer’s remains family-owned and family-operated. Our commitment to the recipes, traditions, quality, and customer service that have defined us for generations remains as strong as ever.

Dittmer’s frankfurters are one of our best selling sausages. It was one of the first sausages that Dittmer, my dad, started making when he bought his first bowl chopper. In the background of this picture is our bowl chopper machine. Dittmer’s uses this machine to make 250-359lb a week to make sausages and lunch meats for a taste of Germany.
