Is Zivolife organic?
USDA Organic was written for soil and crops in the ground. The rules cover pesticides, fertilizers, runoff, animal waste. Microalgae arenât grown in any of that, and U.S. spirulina producers canât qualify under the current framework. The âorganicâ microalgae you see on shelves is often imported, certified by third parties abroad, with no USDA inspection of the actual production site.
A 2026 industry investigation tested 14 organic spirulina products and found nearly half exceeded California Prop 65 limits for lead. Findings were confirmed by Eurofins, the same independent lab we use. The organic label was not catching the contamination.
What organic certification doesnât require is what most people assume it does. Heavy metal limits per batch. Independent lab testing on every lot. Microbial counts. Cyanotoxin screening. Traceability to a single facility. None of that is part of the organic standard.
We do all of it. Closed water-grown system, no soil, no pesticides. Eurofins third-party tested every batch. GMP certified. Heavy metal levels well under FDA targets. One strain, one facility, full traceability.
Organic is a useful baseline for crops. Zivolife isnât a crop. We hold ourselves to a stricter standard.
