I picked up the first honey bee swarm of the season off of a bee tree in Louisville. If you see anything that looks like this in the Louisville, KY area... Pass my number along. 502-702-0099. These will go in a hive where they have a better chance of survival. I caught the queen, she is in the clip in the pictures.

Hi everyone! Just a quick PSA β€” it's honey bee swarm season!

As soon as the sun comes back out, swarming will begin. If you spot a honey bee swarm in the area, please use the information below to report it. This allows trained beekeepers to safely relocate the swarm to a hive, giving it a much better chance of survival.

Relocating swarms also helps prevent bees from settling in unwanted places like your walls, eaves, chimneys, or columns β€” which can lead to expensive removal later on!

Swarming is a natural part of a colony's life cycle: the old queen leaves with about half the bees to start a new colony, while the remaining bees raise a new queen to carry on the original hive. Unfortunately, only about 1 in 6 swarms survive in the wild.

This free service helps boost those odds and supports healthy bee populations.

Thank you for helping protect the bees and keeping our spaces safe! 🐝

As I was working some of my hives today, preparing them for Winter, I looked out over them at the field of dried goldenrod and the yellows, reds, and greens of Autumn and was at peace for the moment. This field of goldenrod which is their last drink of nectar before the flowers stop blooming gave some of the weaker hives the honey that was needed to survive Winter. Thankful.
