Curves & Cardio Step Aerobics will NOT be at the market this Saturday. The market is happening from 8:30am to 12:30 pm, and we would still love to see you.

Juneteenth (short for "June Nineteenth") reminds us that liberation, independence, and the land have always been deeply intertwined roots.

Juneteenth marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that people there could no longer hide that all enslaved people should be free. The troops' arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
There were at least 250,000 enslaved people in Galveston at that time.

From then on, many rebuilt their lives rooted in the soil: farming in hopes of creating a pathway to independence and community.

Black agricultural, craftsmanship and guidance have shaped the way we grow, share, and gather—from seed-saving to the stewardship of our market and the tables that bring us together every Saturday.

Let's remember that in every harvest, every exchange, and every time we touch our craft, we should honor those who turned survival into sustenance and land into legacy.

Thanks so much to all who attended the Big Tree Walk on June 13th with Joe Walker! The two-mile walk, which started and finished at the South End Community Market, included the Overlook, Oak Alley, an American Chestnut Tree, the perched aquifer, and other Giant Tulip Poplars.
More events like this are happening every Saturday, so follow us or visit us at the market on Saturdays from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. At Iroquois Park, next to the splash pad and the basketball courts, is where you can find us. We look forward to seeing you there regularly!
