We've got our Annual Vet Fest right around the corner, and we've still got some vendor spots available. Vet Fest is a big time of year for the VFW. It's a Co-Sponsored Event between the Lufkin VFW and the American Legion.

In honor of Armed Forces Day, it's our opportunity to thank our Active Duty Military for their service and sacrifice. We hope you'll join us. We've got a full lineup of outdoor activities and a whole day of fun.

If you're interested in a Vendor Spot, please contact Todd @ 936-634-4133.

There’s been some chatter lately about whether cottage food products really have to be packaged and labeled before leaving your home kitchen.

The argument goes something like this:
“DSHS doesn’t specifically say that on their website, so you can do things like open cupcake bars or assemble products on-site.”

Let’s clear that up.

The Texas cottage food law requires products to be packaged and labeled before sale. What it does not do is walk through every real-world scenario you might encounter at a market or event, and that’s where people get tripped up.

In practice, when you show up at an event with open food and start handling it on-site, many local health departments will view that as operating a Temporary Food Establishment, which comes with an entirely different set of rules, permits, and oversight.

So, while something might seem technically allowed based on a narrow reading or an omission in guidance, that doesn’t mean it will be allowed when it’s actually enforced.

Could you try to work something out locally? Maybe.
But if your goal is to operate smoothly and avoid problems:

👉 Plan for your products to leave your kitchen packaged and labeled.

My goal has always been to give you not just what the law says, but how it’s applied in the real world, so you can build a business without unnecessary headaches.
