Celebrating the 236th anniversary of the U.S. Coast Guard, a vital branch of our military and a cornerstone of maritime safety and security. Since its inception by President George Washington in 1790 as the Revenue Cutter Service, the Coast Guard has been integral in protecting our nation’s waters and serving alongside our armed forces in every major conflict, from World War II to Vietnam and the Persian Gulf. This dedicated service qualifies Coast Guard members as VFW members, honoring their commitment and sacrifices alongside their military peers.

As we recognize their significant role as America’s oldest continuous maritime service and true combat Veterans, let’s have some fun and nod to that interservice rivalry by wishing the "Puddle Pirates," "Shallow Water Sailors," "Uncle Sam’s Canoe Club," and all the "Coasties" out there, Happy Birthday!
