◼️Lumberton TX.
Despite a rough start from Mother Nature, skies are expected to improve just in time for a big Southeast Texas’ Memorial Weekend community gathering. 🌤🇺🇸

The “Red, White & Remember!” event hosted by the Lumberton Farmers Market & Vendor Fair and is still set to welcome families to Lumberton with carnival rides, vendors, food trucks, pony rides, petting zoo attractions, live entertainment, and patriotic community activities.

▪︎After heavy clouds and unsettled weather move through the area, local forecasts indicate conditions are expected to gradually clear, giving way to a much better day and evening outlook for outdoor activities.

Organizers say the event is designed rain-or-shine anyway, with indoor areas and covered pavilion space available if needed.

▪︎The event, themed around honoring heroes while celebrating community, blends small-town Americana with family entertainment.

Attendees can expect carnival rides, shopping from local vendors, artisans, classic fair-style foods, plus activities for kids and adults alike.

“Red, White & Remember!” takes place at 1534 S. Main St. in Lumberton, and is open to the public with free admission and parking.

▪︎ Saturday’s festivities are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. following Friday evening activities.

-With improving weather expected and Memorial Weekend already underway, organizers are encouraging families not to let the gloomy morning fool them.

Sometimes Southeast Texas just likes to add a little dramatic opening scene before the sunshine rolls in. 🇺🇸🎡🌤

📰 LUMBERTON, TX.
Questions and confusion are circulating with various news teams and citizens after the City of Lumberton appeared on a recent list released by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

One major point causing confusion locally: the City of Lumberton DOES NOT currently impose a CITY PROPERTY TAX, leading many to ask why Lumberton was included in an announcement tied to limits on raising ad valorem property taxes above the “no-new-revenue” rate.

▪︎In the Attorney General’s press release, Paxton stated that certain Texas cities were prohibited from increasing property tax rates above the no-new-revenue rate until compliance issues under Senate Bill 1851 are resolved.
The law requires annual financial audits and public reporting deadlines for municipalities across Texas.

-At this time, no detailed public explanation has been released specifically explaining why Lumberton appeared on the list or what part of the law may apply to the city.

Several Texas communities included in the announcement have pointed to statewide auditor shortages, staffing challenges, and delayed filings as ongoing issues affecting compliance timelines.

-As of now, we are waiting for additional clarification or statements from the Attorney General’s Office, or other government officials regarding Lumberton’s inclusion and what it specifically means for the community.

▪︎WE WILL CONTINUE UPDATING this story as more information becomes available.

What's the opinion in Southeast TX??

--AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Friday that Texas Children’s Hospital has agreed to a major legal settlement that includes creating what officials describe as the nation’s first “detransition clinic” and paying $10 million to the state of Texas.

-According to the agreement, the Houston based hospital will stop providing gender-transition treatments for minors, revoke privileges for several physicians involved in the program, and fund the new clinic for at least five years at no cost to patients.
-The settlement follows a years long investigation into allegations involving Medicaid billing practices connected to transgender medical care.

The announcement immediately sparked nationwide reaction. -Supporters of the settlement called it a landmark shift in pediatric healthcare policy, while critics and LGBTQ advocacy groups argued the move is politically driven and not supported by mainstream medical organizations.

Several national outlets, including Reuters, Axios, The Texas Tribune, and AP, reported the story as one of the most significant developments yet in the ongoing national debate surrounding transgender healthcare for minors.

-Texas Children’s Hospital said it agreed to the settlement to avoid prolonged litigation and continue focusing resources on patient care and research.

--Tell us what Southeast Texans think!!
Is there a majority local opinion?
Was it a political move, or is the program a waste of resources and Ken Paxton was right to make the move?

■ Potential Fraud **TEXAS GATORFEST..CANCELED!!
••ONGOING INVESTIGATION into FRUAD.

ANAHUAC, TX ▪︎ April 29, 2026
■ Organizers of Texas Gatorfest have announced the cancellation of the 2026 festival, citing the need for a comprehensive review and restructuring process following recent developments tied to an ongoing investigation involving financial concerns.

☆TEXAS GATORFEST, a long-standing Southeast Texas tradition held annually in Anahuac since 1989, has been a cornerstone event for Chambers County.
Drawing thousands of visitors each year, and generating significant economic, and community impact.
•In an OFFICIAL STATEMENT released April 29, festival leadership confirmed the difficult decision:
“After careful consideration and in light of recent circumstances, Texas Gatorfest organizers have made the decision to cancel the 2026 Texas Gatorfest. This decision was not made lightly…Our priority remains transparency, accountability, and ensuring the long-term success and integrity of Texas Gatorfest.”

■INVESTIGATION RAISES CONCERNS:
The cancellation comes amid reports of an ongoing investigation into financial activity connected to individuals and entities associated with the Anahuac Area Chamber of Commerce.
According to reporting from various sources, the investigation includes allegations involving credit card accounts opened under organizational names, with balances reportedly reaching tens of thousands of dollars. Further reports say that authorities are reviewing whether funds connected to the *CHAMBER, *TEXAS GATORFEST, and *COUNTY RELATED RESOURCES may have been mismanaged, or improperly co-mingled.

••LAW ENFORCEMENT officials have confirmed that the investigation remains active. No formal charges or final determinations have been publicly announced at this time.

■COMMUNITY IMPACT FELT IMMEDIATELY.
The cancellation has sent ripples throughout the Anahuac community, and across Southeast Texas.
GATORFEST is widely recognized as one of the largest annual events in the area, supported by hundreds of volunteers, and attended by thousands.
Beyond entertainment, the festival plays a vital role in supporting local businesses, vendors, and tourism.
•Many Southeast Texas vendors depend on large scale events like GATORFEST as a key part of their annual income. The loss of the 2026 event creates an unexpected financial gap for those businesses.
“IT’S MORE THAN JUST A FESTIVAL WEEKEND,” one local vendor shared. “It’s part of how we make our living throughout the year.”

■QUESTIONS SURROUNDING REFUNDS and Funding.
▪︎Residents and attendees have also raised concerns regarding pre-purchased tickets, and potential refunds, as clarity on reimbursement policies remains limited at this time as GATORFEST has a firm "NO-REFUNDS" policy even if the event is canceled.

■ Impacts on SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS and community programs historically supported through festival proceeds. GATORFEST has long contributed to local scholarships, and youth initiatives, making its absence felt beyond the event itself.

■ DISAPPOINTMENT FOR SCHOOLS and LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS.
•The decision also affects planned participation from local schools, including school bands, student performers, and community groups that traditionally take part in the festival.
For many students, Gatorfest represents an opportunity to perform, volunteer, and engage with the community. Families have expressed disappointment over the loss of those experiences for 2026.

■A TRADITION PAUSED:
For decades, Texas Gatorfest has been more than an event...it has been a defining part of Anahuac’s identity as the “Alligator Capital of Texas.”
From carnival rides and live entertainment, to cultural showcases and local cuisine, the festival has served as a gathering place for community connection and regional pride.

■LOOKING AHEAD:
Festival organizers emphasized that the cancellation is intended to allow time for a thorough evaluation, and to ensure a stronger, more sustainable future for the event.
“We are committed to addressing current concerns and working toward a stronger future for the festival,” the statement reads. “Further updates will be shared as they become available.”

■ As the investigation continues, the future of TEXAS GATORFEST remains uncertain...but community members remain hopeful that the event will return, restored and resilient.

☆SHARE WITH US your thoughts on the cancelation in the comments.

•Any local vendors that were looking forward to this event? What's your plans now?
