Our Story
The North Star Food Hub does one simple thing: connect local buyers (both wholesale and retail) to the rich diversity of food that is grown right here in the North Country. We believe that buying from local farmers and producers is key to keeping the North Country’s economy healthy. Beyond that, the promotion of local food enriches our collective food culture, boosting local tourism and a providing a sense of civic pride. Eating local promotes health. We believe that produce ripened in the field is always better than that ripened on the truck and shipped thousands of miles. We believe your family deserves the best and that’s what we offer.
The hub began as a regional initiative that serves agricultural producers in Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego, and St. Lawrence counties of Northern New York. The food hub works in collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension Associations and New York State Agriculture and Markets to help local producers expand their production and become more competitive in the marketplace.
In 2020 the North Star Food Hub is managed by Black River Valley Foods with a non-profit board comprised of local producers and stakeholders who provide guidance and recommendations on development and implementation.
