In moments of uncertainty, the heart of Madison beats strongest through its small businesses. These shops, cafés, and creative corners on State Street, Willie Street, and around Capitol Square, in our neighborhoods, throughout our city, and at our farmers Markets are more than storefronts — they’re livelihoods, gathering places, and the threads that hold our neighborhoods together.

When we choose to shop local, especially now, we’re choosing stability, dignity, and care for the people who make Madison feel like Madison. Our community is navigating a complicated moment, but supporting small businesses is one of the clearest ways we can keep our city resilient, connected, and thriving.

Today, Madison feels heavy, and our hearts lean toward one another. We hold space for Corey Durell Ruiz’s family and for every neighbor touched by yesterday’s tragedy. . Our Madison community is hurting, and we are grieving a tragedy that should never have happened. Our community deserves better — safety, accountability, and answers. In the days ahead, may we continue to lift one another with compassion and insist on the care our city is worthy of.

In our shop, we see small moments that reveal big hearts — and Willi was always one of those souls who believed in paying it forward.

Im 2023 Inga , who’s still early in her journey with bandaged‑wrapped cheddar. Willi tasted her cheese, offered thoughtful insights, and shared the kind of wisdom you can’t learn from books — only from decades of devotion, curiosity, and care.

Inga walked away inspired. Willi walked away smiling.
And we were reminded, once again, that the best makers don’t just craft cheese — they lift up the next generation.

Willis legacy lives not only in the wheels he shaped, but in moments like this, where kindness becomes a craft of its own.
